Vai stole SO much Zappa. Little Green Men is just Zappa with Steve talking over it. The marimba or xylophone whatever that is was used a lot on Steve's early stuff. I guess he thought it was so amazing he just had to try some for himself. She's darn good at beating those blocks.

Ruth was one of the musicians truly brilliant enough to understand Frank's music and have the genius to play it. By the way Ruth, it's only you and the late Frank who would have been able to see those three mistakes!

Not always about whether you can play a pre written song... can b very hard. Game is. Write 1 that good

I failed to understand it then in my youth. Now my taste in music has expanded with musical education to be more eclectic. Feels more than 1 note short of a chord, it's vague and lacks melody and easy to dislike The dangerous kitchens dancing fool was as close as it came 🎉 RIP Frank

I saw her live ,mid 70s with zappa,Duke, her mallets looked like we're 2ft wide in the par lights hitting a flury of 32nd notes blazing a solo

I cannot even imagine playing a piece so complex, especially in a monochrome sea of xylophone bars. Ruth’s playing will always inspire and astound me ❤

Ruth IS "the Zappa sound".

The 2 chord is otherwise known as a Major 9. SteelyDan called it a Mu Major, though they also typically retained the 3rd in the chord. But if you listen closely, you’ll hear it in more music than you’d imagine at first. Billy Preston even peppered it in a bit during the Let It Be sessions.

Ruth is a Musical Genius. Frank was so lucky to have someone who understood his music. I love Zappa and hate to think what the 70s stuff would have been like without Ruth. Many people put her in their top 5 Zappa musicians. I say she's No1 all the way. Better than Ike, Belew, Vai, etc etc etc.

"3 mistakes. 1 for each decade I've been away from the music, AND THE INSTRUMENT." What? What? She hasn't played in 30 years? And she fucking killed it. God damn.

Of all the albums FZ put together, I think start to end 'Apostrophe' was his best.

She says that instead of the first, third, and fifth degrees of a scale that Zappa would use the first, second, and fifth - and yet she seems to be playing four notes. Is one also an octave? What is the fourth degree that she's playing?

Ruth Underwood is so Talented, I could PUKE!! DAMN!! I Love her Work!! She is a MAJOR Element in Frank's Greatness!! And Believe Me, as a Musician, I say, Frank Zappa's Body of Works is NOT Exclusively HIS!! The Zappa Legacy required MANY Talented People, Discipline & Hard Work!!
