I don't think there is another channel that shows consistent IMC conditions in an older GA aircraft.

First time watching; he definitely had a solid flight with challenging conditions and obviously flys this route regularly because he knows what to expect from not only his plane but ATC. Sure he did more talking than needed but he was direct with ATC and made clear what he needed and wanted to do. That airspace and airframe is highly demanding and he flew it well especially with the conditions.

Thank you for another Great flight! Good thing this was IRL and not in my P3D flight sim, as entertainment is strictly prohibited! I really enjoyed this one. Will have to try it in my A2A Bonanza.

Why was the terrain feature on the PFD off? I would think seeing the synthetic ground would help you visualize your position.

Jerry - is that a Garmin Pilot or Aera 760 on the yoke? Pretty sure it’s the Pilot but it sure looks like a 760.

Jerry your a risk taker. In the episode before this one, I could tell you were stressed. I don’t understand why you would take such risks with Nancy’s and your lives. If I don’t have 3 miles and a thousand foot ceilings at the destination, I stay on the ground!

Jerry, what is your strategy with the weather radar ? Seems pretty useless as used what do you set for tilt? And, is this the old radar displayed on the GTN or a newer one ?
@Jerry.Wagner
@Jerry.Wagner 4 күн бұрын
Strategy is to look for dense weather cells and avoid them, it is not useless at all it is a Garmin GWX-68, tilt varies, initially we set it for +2.75 degrees, we can display the radar on both GTN-750's and the G600 and overlay it on the map page of the GTN-750's , very good tool to have on board
@TheAlf61
@TheAlf61 4 күн бұрын
@ ookey thank you newer radar used to be a KWX 56 I believe. Yeah at that altitude that’s a good tilt to avoid any ground returns.

Considering the engine overhaul costs nearly as much as a whole plane, per engine… how can one justify these planes financially? It seems like such the perfect fit for my mission, but the overhaul cost has me looking at other planes

Thanks Jerry for the ride along! May I ask what the white nobbled switches are in front of the engine controls?
@Jerry.Wagner
@Jerry.Wagner 4 күн бұрын
those switches are controls for the interior lighting, panels , radios, etc, the left switch turns them on and off and the other are rheostats for light intensity

Great skills to handle the crosswind, but as a newbie IFR pilot, I think I'd have chosen the ILS 12 (1/2 the xwind), even though it looks like there's a long taxi to the GA.

Boy, does that bring back memories seeing you fly in the soup! I trained for my instrument rating in Northern California during the winter time. Almost all my training was in actual conditions, which was quite the experience. I remember doing a step-down approach into Sacramento and it was pouring so hard the noise was deafening. Great times. My instructor was the great Hooper Harris. He flew IFR with ease like most people chew gum.
