Absolute gibberish, setting back the Oxford cause 20 years. What was he thinking?

I love how he inadvertently conceded that the evidence for Shakespeare is overwhelming by making all those videos about how everyone was in on the coverup. It just HAD to be a massive conspiracy to come up with so much evidence!

RIP. I loved his father's PE column in the seventies. I love some of his grandfather's books. All the family are eccentric or actually bonkers. The UK needs more of these eccentrics now.

As much as I want to believe everything that Professor Waugh claims in this video I cant help but think that his delivery reminds me of a south park cartoon connect the dots video where some new insight is pulled out of thin air. More credible than fish dicks but not as much as scott feterman eating his parents.

I totally agree. The interviewer is very patronising. He talked about himself for so long at the beginning of this session i thought itwas to be about him! I felt he is envious of Mark Rylance. Mark was very patient and polite in the circumstance and did not respond. A lovely man and a beautiful actor.

I'm tired of all this absurd, farfetched speculation about the identity of the great Bard! I've done my own research, and these are my findings: William Shakespeare was actually Francis Bacon, except on Tuesdays when he had to pick up the kids. Both of them were really Queen Elizabeth 1, who was in fact a myth and didn't exist. However, she had a first cousin named Elizabeth Handlepan, after whom the Elizabethan Era was actually named, and phrases such as "Elizabethan play" were coined . At some stage, she changed her name to Elizabeth Panhandler, to avoid confusion with Shakespeare, who hadn't been invented yet, though the patent had by this time been filed. The entire works of Shakespeare were based on one day in the life of the largely unknown Panhandler, who was a peddler of Sally Lunn buns in Scunthorpe. The historicity of the events of this particular dramatised day, March 15, 1601, is in question though, as Sally Lunn didn't arrive in England until 1680, and besides, there is a telling scene in Macbeth, (since redacted), originally inserted somewhere between the hideous witches and the spooky apparition, in which Lady Macduff orders Uber Eats. Shakespeare was considered the greatest playwright and poet of his time. This accolade was previously owned by Ben Jonson, but he was relegated to second-place after performance-enhancing dainties were found in his swete bagge. The conniving and covetous Jonson added an "H" to his name and made his return as black Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson centuries later, but he fooled no-one, and was famously exposed as a cheat at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. His medal was given to Carl Lewis who, it was suspected, might also have been Shakespeare. This makes sense. I hope this clarifies the question of Shakespeare, and who, and indeed whether, he/she was.

I'm sympathetic to Oxfordian ideas but this cryptography is tripping. It doesn't constitute proof - it's plausible that a bunch of masonic secret agents might have invented such a scheme, but it could still be an elaborate hoax - with all literary evidence you have to question the motivation and prejudices of the writer. To claim this is more than a potential clue devalues it as it suggests Waugh doesn't understand the criteria for historical truth.

I had the pleasure of seeing Mark Rylance as Hamlet at the Globe Theatre in the summer of 2000, and he is still my favorite Hamlet. Watching him you could believe Hamlet was truly mad or that he was merely playing mad. I completely disagree with him on the authorship question but find him utterly fascinating, and it's interesting to hear the viewpoint nonetheless.

The teacher is very teachery and it's ok to joke that Mark was taking a long time to answer but come ON! He was utterly fascinating and went into satisfying depth. I think the teacher going on too much in a 'jokey' way kind of trivialised the answers that Mark was giving a little bit insulting for the sake of a quick laugh.

The authorship is one of the most interesting questions about Shakespeare. Any academic now surely has to consider the validity of one person in one lifetime, in just one place producing (writing) those very different kinds of plays.
@sianwarwick6332 ай бұрын
Telling comment about reviews, for sure. All the cast and directors in the posh theatre groups in the late 70s 80s etc etc were obsessed with 'close reading' of the text. Rather than interpretation, acting. It was all so serious - black costumes, puritanisme. No stone left unturned for meaning meaning meaning. And of course, Robert Lepage

That was absolutely Brilliant, Alexander Waugh who we all sadly lost this year was a fountain of knowledge and such a Great presenter. I have got to learn so much over the years but this is confirmation that EDV was re-buried in St Peters Church / Westminster Abbey. Thank you for this great video and recommend everyone to watch it.

Why do you say that? I know EDV is Shakespeare both from my family Genealogy and Secret Society......it was a Great bit of research by Alexander Waugh.
@JeffhowardmeadeАй бұрын
@@JasonTrussell-g5d I know because none of his goofy “decryptions” work without his added context, which he makes up. Have you ever bothered to fact check anything he claims? No, you haven’t. “The fourth cross is known as the cross of St. Peter.” No, it’s not. “All of these people referred to De Vere as ‘Apollo’.” Only one of them did. “This bent T is a Tau, for Taurus, the Ox.” No, it’s not. If you had asked him to cite any of the things he claimed, he would have blocked you like he did me. And what you learned in your “secret society” is of no interest to me. I deal in facts and evidence. None of it supports De Vere as anything but a wastrel, a pedophile, a murderer, and a coward.
