I tried reading The Sporting Club and threw it away about a third of the way through it. Why I tried reading it I have no idea, I despise fiction. Anything that Mr. McGuane has written in the non-fiction form is some of my favorite reading and I re-read them often. I have done some of the types of fishing and hunting that he has done so I feel a lot of emotion reading his stories. I grew up in Michigan so I can get a sense of his time there too, then I moved west. I am sure glad he changed his writing for the better in my opinion. I wish he had 10 or 15 more books to read.

Liz Diller and Steven Holl on the same panel. Two major thinkers in architecture. // The experience of created spatial configurations through design is what could have the most positive effect on human physiology AND psychology. Our cities have become the most mediocre environments and for many people that is the only reality they know. So they must periodically escape to a theme park, a sports venue or dig into their smartphones to absorb as much distraction as possible.

That was a terrible thing to say in front of a camera when he was still married. His wife Linda was having electroshock therapy at the time, having the worst of her life. I read 6 of his books and Linda's October Child. I admire him as a writer but he definitely has a selfish and brutal side. On the other hand Linda, despite all the things he said and wrote about her, was so gentle in her book.

Watching this after the Jake Paul fight. I hated him after Holyfield, but watching this reminds me he grew into a thoughtful and caring man. A warrior within tempered by the mind of a philosopher.

Pete blows my mind. He also has seemed to mellow and is cool with doing interviews. At one time he seemed to be a bit of a rough guy. Love Pete. Never be another ever again.

That collection it worth a lot of money. A LOT!!! They are not that fragile, I sew originals on my uniforms all the time. They made millions of these patches & I buy them all the time in brand new condition, shiny & stiff like new. N.O.S. new old stock. They're so plentiful, essentially the ones no one really cares about like the 86th, 37th, 42nd, 5th, 6th, 95th, 24th, 69th, 71st, 76th infantry Divisions.

Listening in 2024. I was there sitting right behind Salman Rushdie, a nice surprise. Paul Holdengraber was a fantastic curator for NYPL, missed by many people after he retired. I think he’s a great interviewer- able to put himself in the audience’s shoes. Key to keeping a running dialogue and making a connection with George Saunders who is in my opinion one of the greatest writers or this generation.
