My father, aged 19, was on sentry duty on Modlin bridge when the Nazis attacked Warsaw. The Nazis tried bombing the bridge but failed. After 2 years in a gulag, he was freed and joined Ander's army, eventually in Italy and Monte Casino. It was another 45 years before he could safely visit his beloved Poland again.

And WW2 was the tragedy also for Soviet Union, for all Soviet republics: 25 millions of the Soviet people died, were killed; cities such as Kursk, Stalingrad, Voronezh, Sevastopol, Minsk (Belarus), Vitebsk (Belarus) were almost comletely destroyed. But in modern Poland, unfortunately, there is a lot of blasphemous: there are demolished monuments to Soviet heroes (and among them the Poles were also); and instead of Russian veterans, Ukrainian Nazis (Nazis-politicians from the Ukrainian criminal state) are invited to the different WW2 datas celebrations, i.e. those are invited whose inspirators and predecessors, the S. Bandera''s followers, killed Poles in Volyn and served Hitler...
