Fair assessment there guys. I agree, it does take some learning and planning. My one buddy said that it definitely played like a Euro game, while I felt that my other buddy seemed to be treating it more in a Ticket To Ride mode, looking to try and build as soon as he could. I've run them, and my one buddy's co-worker, through 3 games now (only 2 with the co-worker) and it does get slightly better with each play-though. Personally (and I may be wrong here) I feel that the actual building of your subway line and stops is really only about one third to one half of the whole game, with placing developments, acquiring demand tokens, and bidding on projects and agendas making up the rest. Overall, I like it, and look forward to hopefully run it at a local board game mini-con at the start of November.

I was really surprised to see a custom insert inside the second game that Sam featured! It's very cool! The regular insert is terrible! I made my own insert. I also have space to hold the expansion box inside (I couldn't bring myself to throw it away). All the miniature bits are held inside the expansion box. Sam's storage solution is much better... mine is cheaper!

I looooooove the #2 game in this video. (Trying not to spoil.) I even bought extra dice for that one, just so you don't have to hand them back and forth as often. So Marvel Champions, you said the villain goes more at higher player counts. I've never played more than 2, but doesn't the villain only go after all players have gone? Or does that change once you get above two players? I'm also wondering (if they appeal to you and you play them as well) how you'd rank Champions vs. Arkham Horror and Lord of the Rings LCG in regards to difficulty? Great list as always, Aeon's end has been on my "need to try" list forever. You're just making me want to bump it up even further. I've found myself gravitating to that style of games lately.
@Oaklestat2 күн бұрын
Sometimes I say stupid things 😊. The villian goes after everyone. They just add more threat (based on player count) and then attack/scheme for each player, etc.

@AndrewGoennerКүн бұрын
@@Oaklestat I hear you there. Too bad we chose the wrong hobby to avoid that! LotR is also pretty thematic. If I were to rank the three difficulty-wise, I'd probably have to put Champions on one end, LotR on the other, Arkham in between. With LotR, once you finish the first quest, scenarios ramp up so quickly that you really have to build decks specific to the scenario to survive. Lots of fun if the deck building aspect is part of the draw of LCGs for you.

@@gregbartman9972 Understood! I get this statement from one or two people at about the same frequency every couple of months. As I’ve explained to those before, with KZbin, you only get three copyright strikes before your channel can get shut down. The amount of time it would take during editing to find pics online that are free of copyright restrictions is staggering (because I have tried it). And then, when/if I find some, they are generally below par in the image quality department. Additionally, it would take even more time than that for me to set up each game and take a pic only to then have to tear it down and set up the next game (and that’s only IF I own all the games we talk about). I don't directly penalize games for being hard to get to the table, but if I haven't played a game in years, it's likely to fall down the list. Fury of Dracula is an easy example of this for me too. Particularly as games like Run (2023), Sniper Elite (2022), Mind MGMT (2021) and even Jaws (2019) are so much easier to get to the table. Years ago the options for hidden movement games were more limited, especially for me as I didn't have a couple of the other popular ones of that era. I'm getting Terrorscape (2023) this year, so Fury of Dracula even has more competition incoming. I'm glad TI4 didn't fall off of the list, I hope it sticks around for years to come. I hope you get more chances to play it. Destinies is an amazing game. It's fairly easy to get to the table. Very app assisted as you have to scan things with your phone. I'm shocked to see Star Wars: Outer Rim that low. It's not that hard to get to the table, and there's something for everyone. Even with JT's parameters, assuming you have the expansion, you can sell your skills, hunt down crewmembers of other players, work with other factions. It's not a game I'd recommend to people that absolutely hate pick up and deliver games, but I don't play smugglers transporting things, but I really enjoy this game. Bounty hunting is fun.

Usually I haven't played many games on Sam's lists, so today was a nice surprise when we can start out with games that I've played. Jekyll and Hyde was the combo breaker, but I'm definitely going to look into that one. I've spent the past 6 months or so taking Skull King with me wherever I go, so I'm happy to look into another highly rated Trick Taking game from you guys. Decorum sounds amazing. I went from 0 interest to checking prices in JT's explanation. Super Fantasy Brawl has been on my list to check out for ages. I'm surprised JT sleeves Aeon's End cards. Aeon's End has no shuffling. Aside from the turn order markers, that game is one of the most forgiving games not to sleeve. JT's top 5 had the phrase "I don't want to play a campaign game by myself with 4 characters." One of my favourite games of all time is a campaign game that I play 5 handed. I got my wife to try it and she lasted about 3 turns controlling 1 character. This explains the dissonance between JT's solo and 2 player list and my solo and 2 player list. Spirit Island wasn't on his solo list, and my solo list was the one where I will put my Chip Theory games and almost all of my campaign games. This also brings up a weird problem for me, because this top 10 for me could just be half of my top 20 games of all time, a bunch that are soloable would probably be better with 2. So I went the complete opposite direction and decided to make my list 2 player games. 1: War of the Ring - We aren't splitting this into 4. 2: Star Wars : Rebellion - We aren't splitting this into 4 either. Sam forgot this, it would have raised the weight of his top 5. 3: Blood Bowl - I haven't played the smaller version that Sam talks about. 4: Summoner Wars - Great app. 5: Undaunted - I know their new sci-fi one has a 4 player mode, but I've never played that one. 6: Run - 2 player only hidden movement game. Criminally ranked on BGG because it hasn't been out that long. 7: Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation - They're finally going to reprint this next year. 8: Sky Team - Happy this won the spiele this year. 9: Unmatched - I've never played it 4 player vs humans, it's probably not terrible, but at its heart, this is a 2 player game. 10: Chess - I had to pick between 3 abstract strategy games, this one special to me. It's a beautiful game. I ended up with a shortlist of about 15 too. Neuroshima Hex and Hive were the abstract strategy games that didn't quite make the cut, though I really enjoy them. I talked myself out of Twilight Struggle. I haven't played Watergate or Match of the Century, although I'm very familiar with those games. I think either of those would replace this as a tug of war game. So Twilight Struggle has fallen down for me, I haven't played it for years. War of the Ring : The Card Game: Honourable mention because you can play this 2 handed at 2 players rather than 4 and it works well. I kicked it way down my solo list because it loses a lot solo. It's not on the list because the base game is 4 or 2 player, then they released a solo only expansion, now they have an expansion that takes it to 6. If not for my self imposed rule, this would be way up there on my list, but both players should play 2 handed. Oceans. Honourable mention because I've only ever played it with 2. This is a relaxing game that I play on my phone. I really enjoy it.

@BoardGamecomments Unmatched really IS best at 2, I think. My wife, son and I played 3-player on my birthday last month and while still very fun, if you don't watch who you pick, on such a small board you all end up stripping over each other. My son was the velociraptors, I was Shakespeare and my wife was Angel. The first two are all about good positioning of characters and the third is about zipping back and forth through enemies, so it ended up pretty cluttered.

@darbyl3872 Oh my gosh, I can't get enough of Unmatched. I really like that your experience really changes based on who you are playing as.
