I didn't see a chute... RIP little pilot. At least he went out with a bang, that looked like the real thing!

Uhhhh, more like $3,500. Turbine around 2K+ and plane about $1,500. That sport plane is not a serious scale kit with extremely expensive scale landing gear like the more expensive scale jets. There is no way that much produced kit is even close to the 35K ballpark

Stupid waste of time, money, and talent. I used to build amazing airplanes. The last one that went in due to "who the F knows" made me so FN bitter that I was done after decades. Worst disappointment ever.

Having been a traditional, grassroots aeromodeller for some decades now, I know the feeling. My 1/5 scale Pica Waco YMF went in on its maiden flight. Ailerons were reversed. It's the only time that's ever happened, and will never happen again. All the experience I've gained over the years, I'd hate to throw it all away, just because of one incident. I hope you may reconsider. Blue skies!

If one can afford a $35k RC, crashing it is part of the fun.

If you can afford to blow $35K on a toy, then you can should be able to afford to not be upset about burning a hole in the ground with it. If you’re upset, then you couldn’t afford it to begin with.
@richarddarlington32293 күн бұрын
Well, first of all, anyone who's willing to spend $35,000 on a model airplane, is a fool for his money. For me, it's not so much about the cost as it is about the labor. I've had models under construction for more than 2 years. You better believe I make damn sure everything is perfect before that first test flight. Blue skies!

I have neighbors in the next subdivision who fly these things all summer over both neighborhoods. Are these people required to have insurance? If that had hit someone's house, that could have been catastrophic.

You'll note the $35K RC plane has a rather large JR PROPO sticker on both sides of the fuse... and more often than not that means that the owner/pilot is being sponsored (i.e. JR PROPO makes high-end radio control units, servos, ect. - about 1/3 the cost of that kind of model jet is in radio equipment) . I feel sorry for the guy, but I hardly think he's out 35 large.
