Regarding the Pawnee AD, the NZCAA have cancelled the local requirement of the ANAC AD and raised their own AD which only mandates accomplishment of the two LAVIASA Service Bulletins. These bulletins do not require eddy current inspections as did the original AD. This regulatory change will make it much easier to comply with and keep the Pawnee’s in New Zealand serviceable and safe.
@bungee75038 күн бұрын
The New Zealand approach is based on the good work done by Gliding Australia, which as generously shared and excellent cooperation by CAA NZ. The Australians have also produced a mod to install smaller access panels, approved as an AMOC by CASA. It is hard to imagine that any regulatory authority would mandate an inspection where the document specified was not in that country’s language. A NZ club has had a certified translation made, which I’m sure could be shared.
@adrianwilliams7637 күн бұрын
@@bungee7503 yes, I know about the certified copy of the service bulletin. I was the person that initiated that being done. A gliding club member had a contact with a Spanish Translator. I have a copy of that on my desk as well speak 😀

A somewhat simplistic snippet in this video, as those in the Australian Gliding Pawnee Forum can attest. GA and CASA working hard on Alternative Methods of Compliance, alternative inspections (in the absence of any credible eddy current inspection procedures), load analyses etc plus exploring spar and wing replacement options and costs, translations, plus dialogue with numerous overseas authorities. Also facilitating inter-club cooperation to reduce ops impacts while fixes are pursued. My thanks to hard-working AW folks striving on our behalf. Yes it’s complicated. I am nervously awaiting Part 2 inspection outcomes for my club’s Pawnee.

Great video guys. Question about the TESA Brand double sided tape. What is the longevity on it. Is it easy to remove when needed. Are there any other brands that are better. I fly the Remote Control Airplanes.
@Navboys_ltd12 күн бұрын
It lasts for years on gliders and is usually only removed because the other two tapes have failed. In terms of removal, if you skip to the removal section on the video that will give a good idea of how difficult it is to remove

Great video! Can you advise what kind of range you'd expect to get with a single antenna, vs that which you'd likely get from the dual antenna option? Thanks 🙂
@Navboys_ltdАй бұрын
It really depends on what the glider is made of and antenna positioning. The main benefit of the dual antenna is to mitigate blind spots. If your antenna is on top of your panel then chances are your visibily behind and below is limited because there are metal instruments and fleshy human in the way. With RFB you could put a second antenna behind the seat pan or low in the tail boom and get much better all round coverage

I'd call a 1000KM+ triangle, O/R or distance to goal in the UK EPIC, but nowt else lad, unless you do the aforementioned at 500 km plus in an Oly 2B or the like............. overused term misappropriated by youths such as yourselves...........

Getting your first 500km done within 2 weeks of getting your first 300km flight done in a 50-year-old glider, with how crap the weather has been this year, is epic. A Kestrel 22 outperforming a Nimbus 3DT, an Arcus and an Ash31 on distance is also pretty epic in my books

Did my ASW19 a few times. Scary at first but works a treat. In the end just did an annual polish with silicone free fiberglass boat polish.
@bruceyv833 ай бұрын
Newish to gliding, but not to car detailing. I find the terms for polish and wax a bit confused with the car world. With cars to use a polish or cutting compound to remove fine scratches etc and use a wax to then protect that newly cut surface, but here the wax does the cutting and the polish is to protect?
@Navboys_ltd3 ай бұрын
The wax in this case is a hardwax which is an abrasive. Usually with cars the wax is used as a sealant and a polish is used as an abrasive. We find it confusing too

9:30 - you can see the damage you've caused. The gelcoat will fog over and if you keep going, you'll burn right through the paint into the fiberglass itself. If you overheat it - there's a chance you can create giant cracks from thermal expansion. In addition - be careful of the heat that can be applied to ailerons and control surfaces such as the spoiler hat. There's WAY less surface area to share the thermal load and you'll overheat the gelcoat.

Hi Jake / Navboys... following your excellent series of Oudie guides, please would there be the opportunity to do a update on electronically declaring tasks via Oudie / Flarm to meet BGA / IGC / FAI requirements - where no paper forms are now accepted... in the UK.... ???
