I met Johnny Z when we did this low budget music video for his record label in the late 80's. I was 35 years old. This was only my 2nd music video out of 152 videos since then. Most of the video is shot in and around my house and street in Burbank. Though I haven't stayed in touch with Johnny, I am best friends with Doug Rasheed who appears in the video and wrote the song. He would go on to co-write "Gangsta's Paradise."

I bought Pink Mischief in a used record store like 10 years ago because I liked the album art. I didn't like this song when I first listened to it but now I've grown a fondness for it. The discordant jarring harmonica tune is actually kind of badass. And this video is super cute. I still have the record, it's in fairly pristine condition

@tompastian34474 ай бұрын
I just went through the youtube videos of Sloop John B being recorded in the studio, and the Wikipedia write up on the Beach Boys version. Ironically, I don't think Al Jardine even sang harmony on the record, and did not sing the lead vocal. It was Jardine's idea to to do the song, going back to 1916. He played it on piano for Brian Wilson, who didn't want to do the song until Al played it and modified it to match the Beach Boys genre. While Brain produced the song, not one of the Beach Boys played instruments on the record; it was all studio musicians. 2 bass guitars were used. Same goes for several other songs, like "Wouldn't It Be Nice", all studio musicians. As to the vocals on Sloop John B, Brain and Mike Love shared in lead vocals, while Dennis, Carl, and Captain from Captain and Tennille sang harmonies.

I never understood why Al wasn’t the lead on some other songs his voice is awesome. Help me Rhonda is great with him singing the lead but this song Sloop John B is 1 of my all time favorites that and Fun,Fun,Fun but I have loved The Beach Boys music all my life. Me and my friend went to the ocean for Labor weekend we both had good jobs so we were oceanfront We had my friends stereo I took my Beach Boys Albums we would have the music cranked up until finally the desk clerk called our room at like 3:30 in the morning asking us to please turn The Beach Boys music down or off !! What’s funny is at like 5:00 o’clock they called again because we ignored them the first time they said the next time we were out so we’re turned it down because we had each meet a cool gal and we were having to much fun !! That was in 1978 my point I was all most willing to get kicked out over great beach music !! What better way to celebrate then to be down a beach listening to Beach Boys music partying with this real cool girl,Thank You Darlene I had a great time !!
