Thank you so much for this video! I just started my alterations business. You confirmed a lot of things I had planned to do but also gave me some ideas I hadn’t even thought about. Thanks for the tip about the app also. I’ll be checking that out now!😊

good day, i live in South Africa, i am not sure how to do my pricing, i always think i am too cheap, how do i convert Dollar pricing into rands, if i take the exchange rate and multiply , it will cost too much, any advice will be great
@AngelaWoolsey5 күн бұрын
I don’t know the cost of living where you are. I would probably stick close to the rate that other seamstresses charge, then continue to improve your skills, becoming better over time. Offering alterations that others may not offer. In my experience, the quality of your work and the varied alterations you offer will draw your customers and you’ll be able to raise your prices. I don’t agree with gouging, but sometimes we need to raise our rates due to cost of living or if the workload gets to be too much.

Why are you not using a sewing machine to stitch it back?

I’m amazed how few videos or web logs exist about this pant modification. Thank you for the video. I skimmed it, but all I really was searching for was the proof of concept that came into my mind recently. I just now took a pair of trousers, far bigger than my usual size, and increased the rise by 2” and brought in the waist. It amounted to one continuous stitch starting right below the zipper, going 2” below the crotch seam, and up the rear to the waist. This is a tremendous option for trousers that I need to make properly high waisted. Thanks!

Thank you for posting this. Do you ever split the seams to make them wider as an alternative? Any downsides to splitting the seams as opposed to what you demonstrate in this video?

I think the fit looked very good. It gaped a little at the centre front when you moved, but I guess that's because it's a mens shirt and for a woman, we'd put a button right between the boobs. A little snap fastener would do the trick there.

I fail so often when sewing for myself, that I just haven’t tried in ages, but my disappointment in the choices in fiber content is causing me to rethink things. At my age, I cannot wear polyester because it is just too hot, and buying clothing that’s made out of natural fibers is beyond my budget so I think I will try sewing for myself again

You could have serged the edges if you have a server. The contrast is great. These days men’s shirts are very colourful and use a lot of fabric that was previously thought to be too effeminate. You could also make another complete cuff - with buttons and all (double cuff) with the new cuff longer than the original cuff sewn in a contrasted fabric. Once you sew the nee cuff, you insert UNDER the original cuff and top stitch, or hand sew to the original cuff/sleeve fabric.

Watching this video in November 2024: the right side I think could use a bust dart; there’s some pulling at center front across the bust apex.

That was sooo helpful! Thank you so much! Now I can shorten my sleeves the way I want them... Alteration tailors in my area in Germany often skip the step of removing the placket so the button hole is way to close to the cuff... But I struggle a lot with the pleats, the double pleats to be exact. Do you have any tricks up your sleeve for that?

I think that your reasoning for the size of the wearer going down is a little off base for Adidas track pants. People who wear this aren't necessarily working out. Along that vein, some of the people wearing track pants are going to want to put them on as a warm up for leaving the gym and going to their cars meaning they are going to use the zipper to put the pants on while they're still wearing sneakers which is why that zipper is so long

Do not use this if you have a G6PD deficiency. 400 million people have it worldwide. 2.2% of the US population has G6PD deficiency and this supplement can cause hemolytic anemia, possibly deadly.
