I noticed that all your videos just happened to deal with the video even the walk-through. I was wondering about the audio portion of it. Can you add tracks or chapters to one long audio track meaning if that particular track has let’s say 10 songs but it’s one long audio file, is there a way to add individual tracks to that? It seems that I cannot find it anywhere on KZbin

So, you need to purchase songs to add them to the slideshow. That's ridiculous.

It’s all about how the music is licensed. If you have a CD, or already have unencrypted versions of songs on your computer, then you can import them into the Music app without having to make a purchase. However, if you don’t have the song, and you want it incorporated in the slideshow, then you’ll need to purchase it. Of course, purchasing a song doesn’t give you the rights to use it on KZbin or other platforms that will let people play it for free.

Hey Ivan. This may be a long shot, but I'm trying to find how to change the highlight color on a custom menu. I'm using just text on my menu and when an item is selected (before clicking to play) it turns black as default. No matter what preset I use, it seems to always reset to black after putting in my custom background image. I may be missing it somehow, but I can seem to find where that setting is in Toast 20.

That sounds like you might have optimize photo storage turned on, which would require Photos to download the full quality images first.

Hey Ivan! I have Toast 20 Pro. I am trying to burn a Blu-ray Disc with one movie. The chapters are already imbedded in the movie. Question: I would like the movie to start once the Disc is loaded. I do not see this option. Also, I really don't need a root menu since there is only one video on disc. How can I remove it. If I can't have auto start, I'd like the opening screen to have a play and chapter button. Right now the best I can do is I have to click on the video, it takes me to the chapter menu at which point the only way to start the movie at the beginning is to have a chapter at the very beginning.

I would LOVE to do a video on that, but I don't have any experience hosting them. I found a pretty good video from Alex Ziskind that covers the topic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKGVlpisZ5aEnNE I do have, or used to know more than a dozen programming languages. However, it's been years since I've written any kind of formal program or script. So, I'd have to brush up on that before I could answer this question. If a get enough interest on this topic, I can dust off my old skills and learn it well enough to give you may take on it. However, I think you'll be more satisfied with a video created by someone who's doing this sort of thing on a regular basis.

for this reason i have an old macbook pro 15 of 2015 where i use the version for macos 10.14.6 because i can't update the system since iphoto i use it for work! i've done tests with different operating systems and related versions of photo but nothing .. always the same! do you think we can find out who developed the vintage prints theme in apple???? :P maybe he can fix the bug

I tested 6 months ago, and again just now. On my Mac, only the Classic and Magazine themes allow a video to play in its entirety. All the others cut it off sooner, some almost immediately, and others after a few seconds. I tested with a 2 minute and 36 second video.

Initially, none of my themes would play a whole video. I had to create a new slideshow project. I also tried making a new local library. The ne project wasn’t afflicted the same way. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s anything we can do within Photos to make it work. We will probably have to find other tools to create slideshows. Both Keynote and iMovie can do it. So can other video editing apps like Final Cut and Davinci Resolve. There are other slideshow apps, too.

hello congratulations and great video. I just wanted to ask you if you were aware of a bug regarding the "vintage prints" theme? I have also heard from apple but no luck! I don't know if you've noticed, try to create a new slideshow, insert some photos and a video, even a small one, for example 20 seconds. then do play or export. you'll notice that if you use the theme as I said vintage prints your video won't be visible for 20 seconds, i.e. you won't see it in full, but only a few seconds!!!! while if you change the theme the video inserted will be visible in full. Did you notice this?

Yes, I've noticed this. Several other themes allow the video to play all the way through, but not vintage. That's my favorite theme and it's unfortunate.

Ok i can try to learn another app, but where i can find something like "vintage prints" that's take Other photo in the background!!!! 😞

Hi, Ivan - Great how-to video on creating a slide show - easy to understand and to the point. As a follow up - how would you recommend I show a slide/video show at a Celebration of Life? I would like a large enough screen for several people to watch at a time. Or should I get a couple of smaller screens to put around the room so small groups of people can watch whenever they want? Can I rent screens and would I then somehow hook them up to my computer or use some other set up? I am a bit reluctant to have my own computer sitting out for several hours unattended. Lastly, I would prefer that the sound not be too loud. Thanks :-)

Well, as far as that goes, you can export the show to a movie file, an *.mp4, however when you do that, the quality of the images in the exported file will be lower quality than the original. Some TVs have a USB port and can play movie files, or even just collections of photos an repeat. So, depending on your location, you might be able to gain access multiple screens. At celebrations I've been to, there's usually a big TV, like a 50" or larger set. Then, you can provide a flash drive with the video on it and have that shown to the attendees. I guess the specifics are going to depend on the capabilities of the place where the celebration will be held. There are lots of ways to approach it.

I've tried and tried an tried to get this software to work to my advantage and I simply can't. Complete trash and total wast of money. No subtitle support. No additional audio support. I bought Toast 20 Pro to have the BluRay burning option. Added a video file that was 11.39GB to a BluRay Project. Toast had it as twice as much on disc at 20.82GB with no menus or anything. Contacted support and they immediately said they had to open a ticket because they basically had no clue. Strongly advise you avoid this straight garbage software.

If you're within the first 30 days you can get a refund. None of the DVD apps I've tried on Mac support subtitles or alternate language tracks. If you come across one, please let me know. I'm still searching.

No argument from me. I think the free and open source option is much better. I just bought Toast Pro to see how it compares and it doesn’t. There’s not a single app like with Titanium. Instead, there’s a collection of apps rather than a unified tool. Not great.

In my experience, you have to use screen recording to save the video to your photo library. Then you can upload it to Instagram. I cover this as the last part in this video.

Hey Ivan! That was a very clear and great explanation. I noticed your old Glide Gear prompter in the vid - I'm actually torn right now between getting the Glide Gear tmp100 with 10.2" iPad or the Elgato for talking head language education type content (using my phone to film). Which would you choose for that sort of thing? Many thanks!

I'm so glad it was clear. The Glide Gear served me well, however I started looking again because the hood attaches to the metal frame with velcro. The metal frame has a strip of velcro that is hot glued to it. After about a year, the velcro strip began to separate from the glue. I had to be super careful about not pulling too hard or fast otherwise the strip might detach and render the whole thing useless. That's why I started looking for something else. The Elgato Prompter is not designed to be portable. I keep it in the box it came in. It doesn't fold down flat. So, that's a bummer. Aside from that, though, I'm happy with it. I was already in the market for an external monitor and the cost of the Elgato was basically a teleprompter with the equivalent of a monitor thrown in for free. At least, that's how I'm thinking about it.

It seems like you have to add the video twice if you want the user to just play the video and have a chapter menu. Once to set all the chapters and second time if you want the user to be able to just play the video?

The way I describe allows you to have multiple chapter marks that link to the entire video, just at different timestamps that mark the starting point. So, 10 chapters might link to the same video, but just at different points throughout it. If you want to play ONLY a specific chapter, then yes, you have to do that the way you describe.

I see how to get the chapters and that works fine but to get the "Play Movie" button to play from the start seems to require adding the video clip again and have the "Play Movie" button point to that.

Are you talking about the "Drop Video Intro" box that appears to the left of the DVD menu when you choose your DVD template? I have been unable to remove it. Might it be possible that you clicked "Switch to Classic?" If so, then you should see a button for "Switch to Updated." When you click that, you'll be put back into the view I show in my video.

Hi and thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I did in fact hit the Switch to Classic button. However switching back doesn't solve the issue. This is Not a serious problem for me. I don't plan to use this particular function very often. It's more a curiosity. I had it, did something stupid and now it's gone. Strange !

I've been meaning to write you back. I'm pretty sure that nothing you did caused it to glitch out this way. I'd be tempted to look for some sort of preferences file in the Library to see whether deleting that might fix it for you. Of course, we could try contacting Toast support to see if they have heard of this problem. Let me know and I can reach out and see if I can extract a meaningful answer for us.

@HeyIvan l have looked into the Settings section and found nothing that really speaks to the issue. The closest thing was SHOW LEGACY FORMATS AND SETTINGS. This was turned off. Turning it on and restarting Toast didn't change anything. Possibly Uninstaller and reinstalling Toast might solve it. But I am not willing to go this route. I don't plan to use this intro video box very often so it's not important enough to risk making things far worse. I have used Toast for years. It's a great product so this little glitch doesn't really bother me. Interesting that it only happens when setting up a blue ray disk but is OK on a dvd. Anyway thank you again for your attempt to help . I certainly appreciate it but for me at least it's just not that big a deal. David

Good review. I’ll try Wondershare. I happily used ‘Toast’ for 12 year to burn DVD’s & Blu-ray but even the latest version would not run on my new MacBook Air with the M2 chip. Roxio claimed it was compatible but quickly refunded my payment. Also, as you say it was asking permissions that I was not happy with.

Hi Ivan. Just discovered your helpful channel. I would like to create DVDs that have traditional buttons. The same kind that commercial DVDs have had for 30 years. What this means is, a button that says “Play Movie” and another that says “Chapter Menu.” Is there a way to do this? I have tried using two copies of the movie, one with chapters and one without. This is almost there. However, if someone selects to play the movie, there are no chapter breaks, therefore, the chapter buttons on the DVD player remote do not work. It seems very odd that this simple capability would be omitted, especially when it was part of iDVD, Adobe Premier elements, and other software products back from when people were more interested in creating media.

You’re right. You do for El gato. There are other cheaper option out there. I just wanted one with a portable screen. I already had a laptop, so that wasn’t a problem for me. Although, everyone is in a different situation.

Roxio Toast 20 looked like it would have a dark mode, however Pro is a collection of apps, rather than a pro version of what Titanium is. I'm disappointed.

Ivan, great video. I used to use Toast about 15-20 years ago and haven't had a need for it since then, but I was asked to create a Blu-ray and DVD masters for a friend's movie, so I bought Toast 20 Pro. I have to tell you, I'm very frustrated. All I want to do is create a custom menu, which I'm pretty sure I did correctly, and then create chapter markers in the video, which I did correctly. Now, when I preview the video, the name of the video does not appear on the main menu page, and when I click on the small box that "previews" the video, it jumps to the chapters page and doesn't play the video. I'm about ready to use a pre-made menu even though I don't want to, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Also, when I create a custom menu, I can't create 5 rows or 5 columns...the "5" is greyed out. Is it just me? Again, very helpful videos!

Glad it's helpful. You know, I had Toast Titanium, but not Pro. I just bought it to see how they compare and it looks totally different. It's like Toast 20 Pro is a collection of apps and not a sort of all-in-one app like Titanium. I'll give it a few days, but if it's all I see here, I'll probably return it.

The other thing that would be helpful is to teach us how to edit (Change the order of the pictures) It seems like it puts them in the order that you select them and if you decide later that you want one particular photo/video to be the first, you can't do it without deleting the whole memory and starting over

You can impose order after the fact, or if you make an Album in Photos, the order you specify there get's respected when you create the slideshow.

Ivan, this is fantastic... I was trying to make a picture and video collage for a friend's birthday and this helped... I even discovered how you change the song... You can even choose a song off of your iTunes downloads (How cool is that?) I can download Paul McCartneys Happy birthday song instead of the lame music choices.. If I were to upload on social media or youtube, would I get in trouble?

Hey Ivan, Me again! I made a slideshow, it’s perfect with music etc. And I need to play it at a friends house this weekend. I tried putting it on a usb, and tried hooking the USB to my Apple TV, but nothing is working. Do you have a video on how I can export it off my Mac on to something else to show at my friends house? I have an iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

If you have an Apple TV and your Mac is on the same Wi-Fi, you should be able to use AirPlay to play it on the TV, no dongle needed. Otherwise, if your Mac doesn't have one of those USB to HDMI dongles, you could use one of those and an HDMI cable to the television to play that way. Otherwise, you can export the show to a movie file. The only downside with this is that it will reduce the picture quality in the exported file. I sometimes have to close Photos after I purchase a track in Apple Music. Once I do that and open Photos again, then it will show.

The file will be too big to email, but you could send a link to it via Google drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud Drive. There are other ways, too, but those are the most popular option that people tend to use nowadays

very helpful video - can you please tell me how to rotate a photo? When I double click on a photo and then rotate it and hit done it doesn't save the rotation. What am I doing wrong?

After some experimentation, it seems like rotating the picture in the Library is the easiest way to rotate an image. On the Mac, I control-click or right-click an image and choose to rotate. Then, when you next look at the slideshow, you'll see the image has been rotated. If you have iCloud Photo Library turned on, you could do the rotation on your iPhone or iPad and it will sync back to the Mac.

You can crop the screen recording. And one tap can toggle the display of the playback controls at the begging of video playback. Let me know if this is confusing.
