Fred, what a fantastic episode. This is why I rate your channel above any others on the subject of historical gaming. Superb content, great panel, and a wonderful concept for discussion which you hosted and summarized very well. Truth should not be something anyone is afraid of. Personally I cannot generally bring myself to play WW2 games as the Germans. The Wehrmacht were a hideous and disgusting agent of murder and destruction driven by a faux concept of racial superiority. That does not mean we should not wargame the conflicts that the Wehrmacht were involved in, but we need to be clear eyed and honest and try to depict some of the important issues raised. Given the information about the game detailed in this episode, it probably is a game I would play, although I doubt I'd buy it. Slave labour for resource points, death camps draining railway resources?.... yes it's unpleasant, but at least it attempts some real context. I guess you can be a cruel Roman and nobody cares.....be a cruel Nazi in 1943 and it is an issue....the passage of time is always an issue. Thank you.

A bit over simplified to frame things as "The Americans did what the British did but it didn't work" - the British gave ownership of the land to Malaysian peasants they moved, and promised independence to Malaysia. In contrast the South Vietnamese government wasn't progressing land reform, was disliked by a very significant portion of the population, and the US was in no position to promise anything to the population without the support of the South Vietnamese government.

Happy New Year, Fred! What is Turner '28? It looks amazing! Also very curious about that glorious edition of Medici...is that a deluxe set? Thanks as usual for spotlighting so many interesting games I hadn't heard of. You're a treasure!

Turnip '28 is a figurine Wargame set in a weird horror / comedic setting. It's very cool. Regarding Medici it's the latest edition you see here, but I personally prefer the one right before with illustrations by Vincent Dutray.

Sorry to hear about your mental issues. I was thinking that perhaps this is a phenomenon in gaming due to the fact that we may use games as a way to escape our internal problems. I certainly like to divert my mind into a complex puzzle so as to give myself a way to divert my mind from negative spirals plus there is also an attempt to rediscover the happiness of childhood when adulthood is less appealing.
@HomoLudens18719 күн бұрын
Thanks, really appreciate it. I am doing a lot better than two years ago, but still struggling to get back to design in a way that is as productive as before. Slowly getting back there. Gaming was clearly a way to cope for years, but it is also a great way to heal.

Hello, I don't know you but I would like to share some common though with what you said. First of all, I own Here I Stand, I still have not played it, but I looked it, I saw videorules, and I'm currently reading it. I hope in 1 or 2 week playing my first time with, what I expect from it, will be a great game. I heard of Tanto Monta and it's the first (but not the last) "review" i saw on it. I didn't know you were game designer and in all respect, I don't care about it. But I was verry interrested about what you said in the last part of your video. I agree with you, sharing thought event if your feelings about a game is not great, is important. It's why I watch video and review. And I know some reviewer (a lot) that are always positive with the porduct their present. And that bother me. Speaking from a place of sincerity (from the heart), is for me verry important. Like you said, GMT don't bribe. I hope you'll continue to post and your thought. Even if we don't know each other, from one anonymous to you, I respect you for speaking from a place of sincerity. And you won a subscriber. Thanks or your honest thought about it, and please continue your sharing. I support you in your path Gerard

Thanks Gerard, really appreciate it. Especially as the push back on videos like this can be pretty strong, I still have some people complaining about it to this day. But if I can't be honest when I talk about games on the channel I created for my own enjoyment, I would rather stop. So expect honest opinions to keep coming!

@@HomoLudens1871 If you do I will watch them.
