Typically that style hull can run 70-120 ish depending on the motor and prop set up. You need a pickle fork to run 120-160 and a hydroplane to go any faster. Those are approximate numbers but what you’re watching is around 70-90mph.

I knew John back in the mid nineties and I saw the work that went into to 16footer to18ft6. It absolutely blew me away. The passion he exudes comes out in the final product. He deserves all of the success that comes his way. Great video.

My father's boat Rebels set an official APBA record of 105mph in the mid 70s. Driven by Ian Purdon, the boat was Super strangler V4 powered Cougar. The record stood for 10 years and was eventually beaten by David Toyer in 88 with aec TIiX around 110mph. Get with the program guys.

Good job guys, but I'm always disappointed to see BAD boats and Hydros in the same race. There's little chance of a BAD boat doing any good against a decent Hydro with all the wake generated by the Hydro's going to the inside of the course where the BAD boats are, as well as the hosedown as seen in this clip.
