Great respect to Mr. Hilscher for perfecting his singing of this world famous, classic Japanese song. It is so well loved that he was obviously under a massive spotlight for singing in Japanese. Well done and thank you.

The brakes must be very good. It took exactly 20 seconds for the train to stop. The distance from the point the brakes were applied to the Lorne Ave crossing is about 270 meters, so that gives a deceleration rate of about 13.5 m/s^2. Pretty surprising for a train.

We were all saddened at the death of Ed Polic. He had a great deal to do with the new Limited Edition CD album that was just released. You will absolutely love this album. These recordings have never been heard before and they are outstanding to say the least!

@@kcbigbandjazz I met Ed at the Tower Records store in Mountain View CA in the late 70s. He asked me where the Glenn Miller LPs were. I told him and said this particular LP, a collection of never-released AAF performances was really good! Little did I know....

The original Joe Garland composition was recorded in early 1938 by Edgar Hayes & his Orchestra, and is a fantastic uptempo version, with bass(!) saxophone played by Joe Garland himself (a bunch of the Hayes band recordings feature the wonderful bass sax snorts of Mr. Garland). In late 1938 he sold the tune to Artie Shaw, whose band played the tune with the same structure, but at a slower tempo (slower than the Miller version), and with updated instrumental arrangements that gave it a texture that more closely resembled the eventual Miller version. When Miller purchased the the in 1939, he had it trimmed down and re-arranged into the version we are all most familiar with. in 2022, the Czech band Ondřej Havelka and his Melody Makers released an album Swing Nylonového Věku (Swing of the Nylon Age) containing a version that is a hybrid between the Miller rendition and the earlier versions, and it is also very enjoyable.

I just loved the unforgettable songs sung in this upload from Orchestra Wives. This movie dates back to my parents time and we kids recall my mother singing all these old golden tunes. "At Last" and "I know why and so do you" brought tears to my eyes remembering the past and those good old golden years that will never come back. But, these lovely videos live on and are a constant reminder to the golden years of Hollywood. Oh, yes, George Montgomery looked very handsome and, he was my mother's heart-throb.
