I consider the Victorians as the nouveau riches of the 19th century, stuffing their homes with the spoils from the colonies. The result: not eclectic, but overloaded, vulgar ostentatiousness instead of nobel constraint. Even the most exquisite pieces drowned in the flood of opulent decor. More is more.

Overwhelming and overstuffed - dark and claustrophobic. The "New-Money-Style" of the 19th century: Rubber barons, railway tycoons and other nouveau riches had to show off their wealth by filling their homes with all kind of treasures as carved furniture, heavy materials, gaudy prints, gilded frames and knick-knacks, mostly expensive, but rarely tasteful. More is more. Hard to breathe in such temples of adoration of excessive capitalism.

Ever since I was a kid and saw old family photos of when my father was a toddler and his family lived in a small stone house in the desert area of my state, I have always wanted to live in a stone house. They are so cozy and so unique. I absolutely love the English stone cottages. Beautiful!

I love cottage decor. I have a brick ranch homes but I am able to put some of the decor in my home. It’s been a challenge but I am see the decor coming together.

I'd like to step in each one of those rooms and never leave again. They are like shelters - soft, warm and cosy - against the harsh outside world of cold concrete and steel.

Too opulent for my taste: too many patterns and styles, dried flowers and other knick-knacks, overstepping the border from eclectic to hotchpotch, from cosy to stuffy.

I find this style always a little over the top and not suited for the average home. One has to be careful not to overstep the border between glam and kitsch and some interiors seem downright cheesy. Nevertheless nice to watch - but not to live in...

This is great, I only wish the images could go full screen vs portrait format. I'm an artist and I love gallery walls, these are all well done. Suggestion for future? Perhaps one on florals, greenery in a room. All these images have one thing in common, a great floral arrangment. Oh...also how about artist studios or craft room, the places we use to be creative.
