This is sad because ppl have families and children it’s some ppl lively hood but recruiters act like they don’t care knowing if they was on the other end of that application they would want someone to consider their families. It’s ok just know it’s some heartless ppl in this world that only care about their family they don’t even consider other ppl children and families.

First of all, great video! But I would like to ask you what can be considered a "project"? Should it be a new app? A new feature? A new component? What could be considered the minimum scope of it?
@SarahDoody
@SarahDoody 14 күн бұрын
It could be any of what you described. It doesn't have to be a full "concept to launch" project. Some projects in UX portfolios are just a sliver of what you did - for example a project might focus ONLY on the research part of a project. Or, it could focus on the interface design or the usability testing of a prototype.

The issue I keep running into with this method is that I'll find postings on Monday, Customize resume and cover letter on Tuesday, and then when it comes time to apply on Wednesday, some postings are removed, meaning I've wasted time with the customization and cover letter writing. I'm starting to think I need to customize and apply on the same day I find a job posting. Just take each one as it comes.

So, when you spill into a second page, how much of the page do you need to fill to avoid it looking silly?
@nro337
@nro337 Ай бұрын
Thank you! I agree with the alternative that having too many pages of filler is never good. However, blanket advice of only 1 page is incorrect as well. Put as many pages as you need to have while only showing quality content that enhances your experience and candidacy.

This is solid advice all around but do find that many companies have such a glut of options at the moment and have taken away the ability to pitch yourself. Many will have as the first and second question, "how many years do you have in X" and "how many years do you have with enterprise saas in ecommerce". The kicker? You may only answer with numbers! I've certainly applied for these positions but you know what the filters are doing when they have over a 100 applications in the first two hours. For the next couple months, 🤞they have their pick of strict experience. Your resume and portfolio are still a place to do this, but the applications have taken this away.

I Sarah, great video. I am trying to put a case study on my wix website. I have made the presentation in Figma. Is it better to just put that in wix or to type text and place images separately? Because there is no option to see the spacing between elements whereas in Figma you have autolayout.

Ehy! Do you have any examples of website portfolios that do that? I've worked for one year as a solo designer for a startup and I have done everything to create the product from zero, and I want to be able to share the different skills and things I have done, but I have no idea of how to present them graphically and without being awkward next to my previous little projects

Let people judge the way they want to. After all the world is full of nasty rogues whose only job is to judge ppl. But honestly, there would be many who will also gauge you by what you can deliver, rather than your shortcomings.

Hi, The advice you gave is something I do believe in, but unfortunately, no matter what I try, the market is not letting me find the job that I want. I am not just carefully reading the JD, but I am also applying to companies that closely relate to my own values and where I can create value. Unfortunately, things are not working out. Is there anything else that one needs to do? I am out of options to connect any dots.

This video was such a big help. I'll share it with a friend of mine who is job searching like me and subscribe to your channel immediately! What you said at the start is exactly how I feel - about the crippling self doubt. I have tried to do job searching on my own but often get so discouraged, distracted and lost. I compare myself to others a lot, especially if they seem more driven to look for work and seem more efficient at figuring things out than me. Often when I see a job advertisement the first thing I think is, I'm not cut out for this and I worry about what the actual job will involve and whether I'll be able to pick things up fast enough or whether stress/pressure will get the better of me. It's been immensely helpful to me to have an accountability partner when doing tedious assignments and job searching because that way they can sit with me when I'm choosing what jobs to apply for and if I start doubting and saying that I'm not good enough, they can say "No Kat! Don't think twice and just go for it!" and I end up applying for roles I never would have been able to alone. Many times, other people can see our potential where we can't see it ourselves. I'm so glad you mentioned about the importance of getting support. I haven't seen many experts place value on that point, especially advice-givers for highly technical careers like engineering where many people aren't as social and like to operate alone. It's impractical to think we can accomplish anything alone. No person is an island. Thank you for providing such great value in this video, Sarah. I like to say why I chose to subscribe as feedback for the channel owner so they know what aspects of their video are captivating and can use that as feedback to make their future videos even better. There are 3 reasons I am choosing to subscribe to you: 1. You mentioned that you are the CEO of a company that guides people who are in product development and that was really impressive to me. Makes you seem highly credible. 2. The way in which you described self doubt in your overview really resonated with me and I felt seen. 3. I like how you simplified becoming more confident into one simple sentence about knowing what you can control and what you have no control over. For someone like me who overthinks a lot, it helps to have things simplified into a one sentence takeaway

I just started a new job and been helping with the onboarding process. I called the candidate to see if the person was still interested in the job and stated to the person we will write an offer the end of the day or next week on Monday. The person sounded really excited about the job, but my hire ups stated they question the person’s experience. I been stressing about it all weekend… What’s a good response to tell the candidate that their offer has revoked? Even after telling them we’ll write them an offer letter? I feel so bad and this is my first time messing up an offer. Just to clarify, no offer letter was actually sent. Only a verbal, but I misunderstood my hire ups.

Great insights. I have been seeking for job around four months. A lot of jobs more looks like advertising, because they renew application once in month. I had some interviews after those I got test task. But many of those task didn't show my skills and knowledge, often it was part of a Landing page. Besides, to got feedback almost unreal. After request email, one company responded that I had good knowledge and skills, but they didn't like chosen stile. And it's very hard (Because stile depends on users prefers. Candidate, who spend three days on test task, can't guess what is doing inside the project and what inside of owner's head(
