Mike your story is amazing. I really appreciate you.

Thanks for this! What are the orange looking spacers between the Cav units after turn 0?
@mikestrand30234 жыл бұрын
There natural wood bits that I use for road column markers. They don't provide the fog of war bennies that the full size blocks do, but I like them better.
@mikestrand30234 жыл бұрын
Where I special ordered them is mentioned in this blog post: pubbattleshomebrew.blog/2019/06/02/tools-of-the-trade/ They're not too expensive.

Awesome video!! This is THE best wargame video I have ever seen. I love the format.
@mikestrand30234 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have found that any meta-game comments about rules, combat resolution, and the like, are really tedious. Whenever possible, I try to narrate it like a story, the same thing that's going on in my imagination when I play. It's no surprise when you think about it, but it isn't that obvious when you're in the thick of editing and trying to be clear.

The pressure is gradually rising for the French. Suspens... How did the last fights at the center go? Even if the battle was won by the destruction of the Pack Train. Fast, nervous, tense story: I love Marengo! Thanks for sharing (I dislike the rule which disorganize unit when in city : they have cover but are already disorganized....)
@gull21124 жыл бұрын
I really like Marengo as well. I didn't bother with the last fights in the center, I only did the one with Desaix to see how he fared. There was a lot of discussion about city fighting. Before the Napoleonic age sieges were the rule, but that would require a different system. At Gettysburg, Reynolds said he would try to defend Within the city, if he had to, but they said not to bother, it wouldn't be worth it. Among smaller units, city fighting did occur. For all the plusses and minuses, I'm inclined to just ignore cities for combat effects purposes (they still block line of sight if over a half a block wide). The nice thing about Pub Battles is that the system is so robust as to allow it to smoothly accommodate either way, as long as both players agree before play.
@smat28994 жыл бұрын
@@gull2112 it's because the Austrians wanted to anchor their defense on the left front around a village. I agree with the large units in the city even if the fighting today is based on urban centers. Detachments in a city remain an obstacle. Did the french unpack ?

Great video. Are you solo gaming?
@mikestrand30234 жыл бұрын
Great question. Yes, I am. Now that I am retired, I find it preferable. No travel, I can play at my leisure, and pub battles, with the chit draw, makes for easy solo play. I'm not into competition, as much as running a simulation.

A living battle : nice to follow. Washington succeeds in slowing down the british and causes enough losses to win. Thank you for sharing. (for the video, it ends may be too suddenly : why not ending by a slow zoom on the losses, the flag, a painting ? And the result written ? (American victory 3/6 ?) Good work. Idea for next time : Differents opening for Gettysburg / differents S2 Gettysburg / a tactical work on the map (road, river, hills to defend...) / Marengo ?

Thank you for sharing. Better with comments : one can follow the intentions, orders of the adversary. It's not so easy for Cornwallis to cross and push the american line.

It does show Howe's wisdom, doing the long flank march, resting his troops.

The French bypass Hougoumont this time. Prince Jerome does not spend his division in vain. British reserve force are crushed by "la Furia Francese" ! Thank you for sharing this french victory (just in time before the prussian strike.) French Guard cavalry has been crushed, isn't it ?
@mikestrand30234 жыл бұрын
The French chassiers a cheval were dispatched, but I don't recall when. Yes, there is no reason to attack Hougomont. It is better to bypass it. Napoleon wouldn't have wasted his time, but as you observe, Jerome had something to prove. The game was close. Even if the British had managed to save their bags, the French were bled white and the Prussians only get stronger. You can fight a second day with Grouchy and the Prussian lll corps arriving, if no one has won. It would have been interesting because after recovering losses it would be an even bigger battle. Of course, it is very exhausting to play that long...

Very quick for a Gettysburg battle ! Interesting battle because this time, Lee seems to defend. But he lost. I'm surprised how few are the unionist losses : may be Lee was too aggressive ? You could have put some comments about the plan before or report after each day, with arrows. Once again, the pack train tilt the balance. Thank you for sharing and see you soon for the next one !
@mikestrand30234 жыл бұрын
Early on, Hill drove hard, but ran out of steam. Lee just couldn't get a decent offensive opportunity until Longstreet showed up, but that too, fizzled. On day 3 the Union launched a huge strike which was countered by Ewell and Longstreet. They might have had a shot if Howard hadn't broke the Secesh right flank, late in the day. Next video will have more narrative with graphics mostly supporting that.

Nice man! Know this must take a while to chop but works perfect for showing this game.
@mikestrand30234 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it is a lot of work, but with practice it moves faster. I have noticed that it is short enough that you can separate out different parts of the battle and just watch that. It is fun to watch the Prussians go from a mere rumor, to an unavoidable concern!
