1:22:40 to 1:30:10 what's with the constant stops in the middle of nowhere? I couldn't see any signals to tell the driver to stop. So why is the train stopping in the middle of the run constantly? Am I missing something?

So far I've heard no horns on these trolleys. They probably use them only in emergencies.
@RailfanDylan400418 күн бұрын
You would be correct. They do have horns but only used in emergencies or to get your attention if your to close or if the driver is nice and your a Railfan video taping them they will blow the horn for you

With the station platforms at different heights and the train entrance at higher level, how do people board/disembark at the lower level stations?

Oh, this really takes me back! @0:53 I went to preschool at the school there on the left! @1:31 Remember there was a school at this crossing, and a turnaround loop for PCC's just past the crossing, and you can still see the remains of the messenger wire for the loop track. I was told cars were prone to derailing on that loop, so it was seldom used, and was partially dismantled in 1997... @5:17 A four light signal, those were after my time... What is the fourth light aspect? @8:23 An RxR sign with the T symbol on it! Loved the little touches like that! Really a shame they have been steadily disappearing, though to be fair, they probably were targets for souvenir hunters... @8:28 Ah, yes, the trackwork here always fascinated me as a kid, particularly the connection that was at @8:51 that allowed the PCC's from Castle Shannon to access the Overbrook line. Unfortunately, the Overbrook line was shuttered for the better part of my tenure in ol' P'burg! @9:45 The remains of the old PCC loop! @12:55 That sign could use some fresh paint, sadly, it's probably just gonna be replaced with a PRT one without the T logo, not pleased with that inevitability! @15:39 The way the crossing signals are up on wire spans on this stretch is interesting... @20:43 Hey, skipped over Fallowfield station! @21:45 You just backtracked here! @24:07 Interesting they went with a flying junction here, but with light rail cars using the rebuilt line, I guess there's no point in using the low platform anymore... @28:50 What does that "K" mean? @33:49 You can see the old platform there!

I like how the driver totally glossed over the worthless extension to Pennsylvania station. Because they would have had to pay the money for the construction back to the federal government, for a very long time they were running one empty car a day as a symbolic proof that it was being used.

@@noreo4961the trip begins at South hills village where are the storage in maintenance facilities are. And then proceeds through the tunnel under Mount Lebanon, and the streets of beachview. It then climbs down to South hills junction which had previously been where all the streetcars had been stored and maintained during the final years. It the. descends down through the very steep Mount Washington tunnel which was built 100 years ago. Originally, the streetcar lines crossed the Smithfield Street bridge, but now they take a sharp curve going up to the former Pennsylvania railroad panhandle bridge, crossing the Monongahela River, then descends into a tunnel under the Allegheny River that winds up on the North side of the river where the sports complex and casinos are

LA’s rail transit may not be the best, but they’re getting there: • They’re building the K Line from Expo/Crenshaw on the E Line to Redondo Beach on the C Line and shortening the C Line to instead terminate at the new LAX/Metro Center. Both the C and K lines will serve LAX Airport, which will get an automated people mover from the Metro Rail station to the airport terminals and they’re also constructing a people mover to SoFi Stadium. • They’re extending the A Line from APU/Citrus College in Azusa to Montclair Transit Center. • They’re extending the D Line from Wilshire/Western to Westwood/VA Hospital, which will serve a hospital, an university, and the Century City Area.

What an odd mix of long and short, high and low platfoms. I guess it is historical, but it almost feels like the stops with the most sign of nearby buildings and activity get the most minimal stops, whist the double-length high platform stops seem to be just serving woodland. And I don't think a single passenger got on or off on the entire journey. Was this some sort of out of service journey, or is it very poorly patronised.
@KT226722 ай бұрын
The reality is that the region this line runs is extremely unappealing to pedestrians, and as you mention, all the stops are at areas that are difficult to walk to as well. So it’s mostly just used for rush hour traffic alleviation, people drive to a parking lot and ride in (park and ride) and outside of rush hour it’s empty. It’s not the fault of the infrastructure however, there’s too many hills, there is a saying in Pittsburgh, “you can’t get there from here” and that goes for walking too, often you are met with a cliff side or large hill in the course of a 5 minute walk so many people drive because I mean yeah who wants to walk up a mountain every day?
@ArtStoneUSАй бұрын
There was a time when this line was serviced by 1940s era PCC trolleys they were at street level, and then the lrvs were introduced that load at high platforms but also have a door at street level for areas like beachview
