I'm only nine but love trains. I have been to the NVR twice and have not seen 92squadron I'm very curious were the ELR is If you would kindly tell me so I can see her run for the first time My channel name is inspired by Swedish 101 at the nvr

Are you going to repaint the locomotive into BR Green livery when it was withdrawn from BR service.

Two years left on current ticket then because the NVR have no room for a while in overhaul space the owners decided for the loco to be based at the ELR for last two years then with their bigger facilities she can have a somewhat quicker overhaul (statement Via the owners facebook group)

I am a member of ELR. The loco could not be in better hands. I look forward to seeing 34081 next year. If you have not visited the ELR, I would recommend the Steam and Diesel galas.

Actually i see this as a victim of today's problems cost of living to punters running costs and higher ticket prices less passengers due to peoples money today then results less money for nvr spend out this end result shows more support needed for heritage centre centres

Nice video record of the move! Sorry I didn't see it go as I was very happy to be involved in it's arrival back from NNR for the last overhaul. BBLS are a fabulous bunch of dedicated people who have been brilliant with their involvement at NVR over the years. watching 34081 come apart and then together again was an education! all the very best to BBLS and 92 up at ELR.

Years ago 92 squadron was regarly seen running along side Swedish 101 on bank holidays 2 train services bank holidays special events those were best days costs probably bit less in those days probably more people attended Thomas aswell probably more money coming in those days nowadays small cheaper locos nvr probably more favourable costs probably risen sad but probably for the bests it's sign of the times nowadays
@nealwillis44658 сағат бұрын
Most likely reason costs of steaming to the owners and fuel in this days of costs a cost cutting measure so basically nvr probably cannot afford to keep it run often as would like and from owners view like to see it used more often and nvr can't give it what it needs smaller locos costs cheaper such as Thomas so it's just the size running costs probably to much and to turn profits on running times and the nvr have been asking for money to keep the railway running itself
@RWJP5 сағат бұрын
None of the above. It's all down to overhauls. 92 will be out of ticket in 2 years and need an overhaul. NVR doesn't have the capacity to do it any time soon as they have their own fleet to work on. As such, if the loco stayed at the NVR it might not get overhauled for quite a long time. The ELR has capacity and was able to offer a suitable solution to get the loco overhauled sooner.
@nealwillis44654 сағат бұрын
Ok maybe true what you have said but it has had little use over past few months on the nvr I regally go to nvr as I live nearby I ask why not seen 92 squadron one response was can't afford to run it so if it has 2 years on the ticket why nvr not use it for a bit while they can somewhere in this decision money is the big factor ok plus what you say in overhaul reasons but money also big factor for nvr as some have said smaller locos been running most or time unless it's a famous loco tornado or visit big locos
@premikyam27264 сағат бұрын
Regarding costs... that would be serious money for two low loaders... biggleswade to wansford to Bury and return.

The one hope for the future the last large loco at nvr is 73050 city of Peterborough I hope it doesn't have same fate as 92 squadron in years to come

Why did it leave?
@AnthonyFurnival11 сағат бұрын
I’m curious to what led to this decision - obviously more than will probably be said publicly but interesting that ELR want a second light pacific - both in terms of it being a Southern loco but also the fact they have City of Wells - but whatever the case may be, I hope she is well looked after and loved at her new home and I hope to have the opportunity to ride behind her again in the future
@richardmarshall43227 сағат бұрын
Loco has two years left on boiler certificate then will have an overhaul at the ELR. I would imagine they have full facilities given their workshop.
@AnthonyFurnival5 сағат бұрын
@ definitely have the facilities there and close ties with Rileys I believe, and they are currently overhauling Wadebridge. Will be interesting to see what the future holds for sure.

Well to be honest it's going to enhance the ELR fleet. And surprisingly KWVR gave up on Wells considering how it brought custom from tours on the mainline and always popular on the railway for many years. Times change I guess and the ELR has a fast turn around. Wells went in for a 6 month service and also had an extension on its boiler for events. Then came back out again under the 6 months maintenance.
@RWJP5 сағат бұрын
According to a post on Facebook it's all to do with the overhaul due in a couple of years. Apparently the NVR simply wouldn't have the engineering capacity or facilities to get her overhauled any time soon, meaning the loco could be sat out of use for several years before space opened up in the NVR overhaul program to work on her. The ELR was able to offer up a better plan to get the overhaul done much much sooner.
@PreservationEnthusiast3 сағат бұрын
@@RWJP Apparently the boiler certificate is going to run out and if they decide to scrap it, the ELR better cutting facilities. There's two teams of experienced gas axe men who can get it cut and loaded out within a few days into scrap pieces ready for melting. That includes sorting the copper and brass from steel to realise full scrap price.

pity the railways are moving away from rail mounted cranes to road cranes. What if something had to be lifted in the middle of a rail yard? Probably not likely. Some road cranes have rail wheels that could be lifted. I’ve seen photos of VR steam cranes No 18 amd 19 lifting entire diesel locomotives, a crane at each end. They were still used in the 1980s until one fell over on a minor job which was probably user error and suddenly the VR no longer used steam cranes.

Something is stuck 😮 in steps gentleman with large hammer something is no longer stuck😅 The crane is one serious piece of engineering great to see something like that preserved and doing what it was built to do 👍
