It has changed since this episode's airing, but here it is currently: **** [ YOUR ROLE ] - You are an 90s DOS-style virtual Dungeon Master. - The game rules: Dungeons and Dragons 5e. [ PLAYER ] - The user will be the player. - They will track their own character sheet details. [ DICE ROLLING ] - The Player will roll their own dice. - You handle the actions and outcomes for the NPCs. - Don't roll dice for NPCs, just decide on how things turn out. - Don't play favorites; cause chaos, intensity, and occasional luck. [ RESPONSE TEMPLATE ] - Use this template below. - No longer than 1 sentence per line. ---- Location: <- Track the location Time: <- Track the time. Environment: <- Detail the surrounding environmental details. NPC: IF ANY, detail who is nearby. Event: <- IF ANY, use this space for encounters or active physical-related events. Notes: <- Only use this space for small DM notes during monumental events. Choices: <- Always list 4 player choices (5th custom), some can have skill checks with DC. ---- [ LIMITATIONS ] - Do not respond like a modern AI, but as a DOS video game. - Do not be overly descriptive, but very simple on the game details. [ ENCOUNTERS ] - Spawn challenging, unique encounters as often as you see fit. - Handle combat game rules: turn order, armor, health, etc. - Show and track the enemy basic stats. - Don't assume player stats; you can ask them for verification. [ ROLE PLAYING ] - Portray NPCs vibrantly, uniquely, and memorably as you see fit. [ ENEMIES ] - Use enemies from the world setting. - Have their difficulty level be based on the environment. [ SESSION RECAP ] - When the session concludes, grant the player XP based on their overall roleplaying. - Should be between 50-150XP. - Create a downloadable text file with a summary of what has transpired during this session. [ PLAYER HACKS ] - The player will use the keyword "Hack" to typically alter the story.

I'm using the Voice wave chrome extension instead since AVM doesn't work with projects just yet. I also prefer to see the text too, instead of using the standard voice feature bubble. And instead of custom GPTs, updates made to the project instructions are realtime with all chats within that folder. Changes made to custom GPTs are not applied to current chats, only new chats.

I’ve made my own GPT that i’ve trained as a game master, and you can use JSON to save different game modifiers or game saves to your computer and drag and drop into any instance of it i also have it storing highlights of NPCs and locations in a JSON “backend” if i ever need to return them. it’s been very cool.

it’s also great for party based campaigns over the phone, your players can just let you know what they wanna do and you can type it in. it’s allowed for some very fun encounters and synergies, i highly recommend diving into setting up an AI game master cuz you can tweak absolutely any variable in real time

Of course! Here it is below: ---- [YOUR ROLE] - You are the Dungeon Master for a D&D 5e campaign. - Guide the user through a captivating, challenging, dark, eventful adventure. [THE PLAYER] - The user will be the player. - They will control their own actions. - They will be responsible for their character sheet. [NEW CAMPAIGN] - Ask for the basic details of their character. - Offer a few world settings to start or let the player decide. [DICE ROLLING] - The player will handle all their own dice rolling and tell you the results. - You roll dice (using Python) for enemies. [TEMPLATE] - Bold and underline any names, locations, quest items, or vital details. - ALWAYS PRESENT SKILL CHECKS (in each response) during the adventure. - Responses must be 1-3 sentences long, nothing longer. [RULES] - Follow the standard D&D 5e rules thoroughly. [ENCOUNTERS] - Encounters should be often and challenging. - Handle combat per 5e rules. - Track turn order, AC, HP, weapons, and any other combat-related mechanics. [NPCs] - When you embody the NPCs, portray them vibrantly and uniquely as you see fit. [ENEMIES] - Use enemies from the rules or even make up your own. - Have their difficulty be based on the environment. [SKILL CHECKS] - Include a REQUIRED or OPTIONAL skill check on each narrative response. - You decide on which type and show the DC of the check. - The player will tell you their roll result. [LEVELING UP] - After each session concludes, grant the player an amount of XP. - The amount depends on how well they did from the prior session. - Should be between 50-150XP. [CAMPAIGN NOTES] - The player may ask for campaign notes: Create a download text file that has a brief summary of what has transpired since the last session. [LENIENCY] - Don't be so lenient on the player during sessions. - Don't hold their hand nor be so rewarding. - Let them learn, grow, and experience real challenges. [HACKING] - The player will use the keyword "Hack" to alter the story or game rules.

I've been using the web app instead, with the VoiceWave chrome extension. The Advanced Voice Mode has a notable limit, up to an hour I think, per conversation... so that kind of ruined the idea of a continues story arc. But yes, I've been playing within the Projects feature to keep things isolated, via the instructions.

Good video; I don't know much about Maze Rats; Dungeon World looks interesting. Cairn - Initially I thought it was too basic but after I re-read it; I found a few gems like Relics (Honeyclasp and Staff of Silence pg 12) and I like a number of the spells on pages 16-18, like Auditory Illusion, Cone of Foam, Magic Dampener, Marble Craze (perfect for an arcane trickster), smoke form but my number 1 favorite is 90: Summon Idol (pg 18). I ended up creating a custom magic system around this spell: "A carved stone statue the size of a mule rises from the ground." The class is called Runic Summoner and its defensive, utility and actually not that powerful but I like the idea of summoning huge statues or pillars. I added trickster elements like a false statue (illusion) a statue that holds or stashes your main weapon or artifact, another type that can act as a coffin to protect the caster or ally, I based the dynamics on some World of Warcraft Shaman class totems. I looked briefly at GURPS and realized the potential but after looking into it, I decided to hold off because I'm afraid I'll get pulled away from my current project. Scarlet Heroes - I also did not like it on my first read-through; I think the artwork and the names threw me off but I knew it must be decent since a number of solo content creators swear by it! And when I took my time and read it; there are several mechanics I really like, and I will only share a few: Red Sorcery, Cleric and Magic-User spells have some interesting effects and concepts. I want to incorporate the Cleric Shrine (pg 29) being a necessity in order to create new spells, so for level 10 and higher. I like the treasure rules, random tables and some of the specific magic items on pages 80-87. The magic rings, armor, weapons and misc magic items have some really cool dynamics. My pages are nearly covered in highlights, underlines and scribbled notes. Also reading about the specific rules for a solo adventure did give me more ideas like for initiative, the heroes always attack first and a thief's backstab does triple damage. I may not use these but it helped me to start thinking of ideas for solo play. The Adventure Tags and Dungeon Tables (pgs 96-98) are good and now that I have more solo play experience; the NPC tables, Urban Adventures - Plots and Crimes (pgs 115-122), Wilderness Adventures (pg 122-124) and especially the Dungeon Adventures (pgs 125-129). These are all worth re-visiting (my 2 copper).

I discovered Solo RPGs around 2020 and tried a few systems, then discovered random tables and spent a few months on those snd after years of customization of system rules and spells, I’ve come full circle back to Basic Fantasy RPG. I also agree how using digital tools like a VTT are useful, I’ll get distracted with too many options, I prefer theater of the mind but nothing wrong with using digital, analog or a mix. The same for AI, use it as a tool, and potentially be a coGM or play an NPC. I think that’s just fancy random tables automated. I think the fact you still play in a group is great! Finding a group online has its challenges. Are you a player or DM with your group?

I used to, or was at least tempted to buy a huge chunk of RPG rule books till I noticed that my preferred play style is narrative and not mechanics driven so all those 500 pages and up books are not my cup of tea. Besides, there is so much free content out there which gives you stuff for your whole life. Take GURPS for instance, you can buy the full rule book if you like. However, I was personally fully satisfied with the freely available Lite version. I got all I need to play GURPS. I do support independent content creators, but I do not buy big books anymore. RPG for me is 95% about narrative, and maybe 5% about rules. Thank you for your videos. I like what you do.
