How long can you keep the sock on the cob?
@mgsantaclara
@mgsantaclara 4 жыл бұрын
After pollination you can put on the sock. When the ear is ready for harvest, remove the sock and pick the ear.

So the lower ripe kernals were from it not fully pollinating? So if you double planted and hand pollinated them all would that solve the issue?

Try putting the chayote in a sunny window. When you see the bottom begin to sprout it can be planted.

I planted elephant garlic last year and when I harvested it the bulbs looked like perfectly round white onions if all different sizes some were very large and some were quite small. I did not get bulbs of garlic like what I separated and planted Why?

If the plants are too close together that may result in smaller bulbs.

Will the plant only produce once and than die? Or do you cut it to the ground for the next stalk/buds grow?
@mgsantaclara
@mgsantaclara 4 жыл бұрын
That depends on climate. Deep freezing in winter may kill the roots. If your area is warmer, once the buds have been harvested, cut the stalks at the ground. New growth will sprout from the roots.

I've been trying to figure out when to actually harvest my plant. I've heard that when the plant begins to open its leaves but I still think that I'm harvesting a little too early. When the bud first appears, is there a general timeline that I can approximate from? Also, I'm harvesting one at a time, correct? I'm not taking two or three from the plant at once, right? Thanks
@mgsantaclara

Harvest as the buds reach the best size. As the bud matures to blooming and the bracts open more, the "heart" will get smaller and the choke will grow. When the first bracts begin to open, the delicious heart is as large as it is going to get.

0.30 You mentioned that the Trinidad Morunga Scorpion is the hottest, Carolina Reaper The Hottest Pepper in 2020 is the infamous Carolina Reaper! While a lot of other contenders have come onto the market in the past few years, the Reaper still carries the Guinness World Record crown for being the world's hottest pepper in 2020.Jan 2, 2020 Would appreciate your opinion as there is a lot of websites stating this. Ps. i enjoyed your video on Elephant Garlic, it explained growing it well, thank you.

Beware that your chokes need to be planted inside wire mesh baskets if you have gophers, it's a gopher delicacy, you are likely to lose all your plants the first season if they can get at 'em. Baskets do the trick it's not a big deal.

NO don't do that! It just grows from where she broke it off! Try FOOD GRADE hydrogen peroxide, not the stuff you can buy locally in a store. Heard it will kill weeds, hopefully bindweed? I want to try it cuz pulling it up does not help, just makes it grow stronger where the roots break off.
