"Our fans are braver than I to let that song penetrate them, or maybe they don't realize what they're listening to. They don't realize that 'Street Spirit' is about staring the f--king devil right in the eyes... and knowing, no matter what the hell you do, he'll get the last laugh. "The devil really will get the last laugh in all cases without exception, and if I let myself think about that to long, I'd crack. "It's why we play it towards the end of our sets. It drains me, and it shakes me, and hurts like hell everytime I play it, looking out at thousands of people cheering and smiling, oblivious to the tragedy of it's meaning, like when you're going to have your dog put down and it's wagging it's tail on the way there. That's what they all look like, and it breaks my heart." "I wish that song hadn't picked us as its catalysts, and so I don't claim it. It asks too much... I didn't write that song."

This song is about the passage of time, and the realization that everything is effected by death. If you listen to the rhythm, it sounds like a ticking clock. Also the steady rhythm could represent a heartbeat, and symbolize how much time a person has left. The whole song seems hopeless at first, like death always happens and there is nothing we can do to change it, but it has the best redeeming quality at the end when Thom says “Immerse your soul in love”. Basically he’s saying that life is too short to live in hate, and that we need to make the most of each moment by loving each other.

Rows of houses all bearing down on me I can feel their blue hands touching me All these things into position All these things we'll one day swallow whole And fade out again and fade out This machine will, will not communicate These thoughts and the strain I am under Be a world child, form a circle Before we all go under And fade out again And fade out again Cracked eggs, dead birds Scream as they fight for life I can feel death, can see its beady eyes All these things into position All these things we'll one day swallow whole And fade out again And fade out again Immerse your soul in love Immerse your soul in love

Whew!!!! Heard the original by The Stones on a new tv show and wow- this song still has POWER. And ERIC BURDON- Sorry "Jags" better voice and just as sexy in his own way and the VIOLINIST- to steal a vibe fron fav tv show, "hot priest- Fleabag!!!! "hot rocker", hot violinist" - yes I am over 30!!!! and I will ALWAYS STAND BY THE MUSIC OF THE 60'S, 70'S, over RAP.

Was running late last night, in the pitch black and grinding it out uphill, as I crested the hill this came on and I had to stop and pause. Listened to the whole song just watching and looking out into the black as the rain hammered down. Still one of the greatest songs ever. Fade out.

15 years on this still cuts deep. Fantastic performance by brandon - note the additional emotion on the bridge "don't you know kingdoms under siege" - absent from all other performances of this song and really hits hard. Outstanding composition from the orchestra - woule love to know who scored this. Also enjoy tommys passion on the drums there hes clesrly loving it !

If there was one place where I could experience anything ever this would be that place I wasn’t even born when this beautiful performance was played. I’ve been lucky enough to go to Glastonbury though out my childhood and teenage years and it’s one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been words couldn’t describe. And nothing brings me back more than to this set
