No bc genuinely I think Elias got a bit freaked out here. Spoilers below but… The evil trauma dump didn’t start right away. Even after admitting he would have to if Martin didn’t stop burning statements, he only finally began when Martin started questioning his motives. “You knew Sasha was there. You knew Prentiss was under the archive. Why didn’t you do anything about it? Why did you just let it happen, but this Unknowing thing requires everyone’s intervention?” And Elias immediately changes the subject bc that line of questioning is getting Scary close to his full plan. I think that moment, more than anything is what finally caused Elias to stop underestimating Martin.

Ironically, if he was an avatar of the Desolation, it might have won the first time. I doubt even becoming the embodiment of emotional pain and literally burning anger would make Martin less caring, it would just make his character more tragic. So, assuming that he was able to join the Cult of the Lightless flame, he'd probably be the best person to serve as Agnes's caretaker; and the Scoured Earth might have "succeeded" (fizzled out in a way that gives the Desolation more power without really bringing it "here" because it technically already is).

@twobladedswordsandmauls2120 I kinda feel like he would become an Avatar long after that though, and kinda just imagine him being a Desolation avatar seperate from the main cult ngl. Like how Mike wasn't associated with Fairchild. It would make sense for Martin's more Lonely leaning tendencies too imo.
