My grandpa claimed that when he bought his semi, the truck was 12v but somebody had put a 24v starter on it, and sometimes it would crank and sometimes it wouldn't. Not sure if that's how it really was or not but that's what he said.

That isna very very interesting point Evan, something I should check into!!! Once I rewired it and moved the batteries it did OK. But I don't think it had ever started like it should. That morning it rolled slowly for sure. Thank you my friend!! 😁😁

I should have clarified better. This was an air starter truck. When they made it electrical, a very weak used starter was installed. It doesn't like less than 50 degrees...the starter "starting " the kitty cat that is 😁😁

I should've mentioned what I was defining when I said grouchy. 🤦🏼 When they converted it from air start they must have used the oldest starter known to man. Even with fresh batteries less than 50 degrees it drags very very bad. Time for a rebuild I think 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Ron!!

I should have titled that differently 🤦🏼 Air start conversion, and they must have used the oldest starter out there..it drags so bad 🤣🤣🤣 At 15 degrees it take 20 batteries to turn that starter 😳 It's time for a starter rebuild I do believe 😁

@@Pennies_on_the_dollar lmao 😆😂 old cabover I had, 8V71TTA. Lower compression. Above 70° the air starter would get it going.. otherwise plugged in and or Cosby juice. Air starter self destructed, so scrounged up a 12volt. Never did crank it very fast.. but a lot longer.

I bought a new torque wrench awhile back. Got the Pittsburg, wished I had went with the Quinn or Icon. It didn’t torque up as high as I needed. Merry Christmas Nelson!

We debated hard on the right torque wrench, but figured the adapter and the 3/4" bar was best. That way an expensive tool wasn't just sitting in thr drawer!! Well, that preventative maintenance is the way to go. Glad you took care of things BEFORE you pick up your items. Better than having problems somewhere along the highway, far away from home. Buying that truck and trailer was a good and wise purchase and gives you a lot of capabilities in terms of hauling things yourself. I just worked on my neighbors truck. You have the upgraded one locking nut design on your front spindle. The old design was the 2 nuts with the fold over tab washers. How do you like those digital torque boxes? Have a great Christmas!

I was at first thinking that was a consolidated freight thing in the spindle. But I think you are correct and I sure learned a lot!! It's actually a pretty sweet setup, with the end play tolerance those "teeth" in the nut really made it easy to get it right!! It has really came in handy, we got the icon 3/4" bar that is so useful for more than just the adapter! The adapter itself is a life saver and we have had great luck with it!! I'm not sure if it was a stock pile they had or just the company itself...but that's one of the odd things they did... Consolidated Freightways. That thing has zero plastic air lines, it's all hydraulic lines🤔 I mean they really wanted to stick out, odd clearance lights, round head lights, wedge brakes, air starters etc. I plan one day to switch the front axle over when I do the air ride swap from the donor fld. Good evening Nelson. Looked like wedge brakes on that front axle i would get rid of them I've never had good luck with them working properly. Them hub and drum assemblies are definitely heavy ive had a finger aor two in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ive seen those clips a few times pretty common i think. I haven't wrenched in quite a few years but did my share of seals when i did

They sure are wedge brakes Ron, good eye. I think that was some of CF stuff because the back axle is as well. I have heard good and bad things.. but availability is key. I hope to swap the front over with the other parts truck when I do the air ride swap😉 Boy I tell yeah a skinner can be damaged in the blink of an eye 😳😳 I have never seen those clips but I think you are tight, pretty common due to the adjustment of the beating and end play. I'm not inclined to talk smart about your tools. I've used a cheater pipe on Yankee Wobbler wheels. Weather changes are worse. Once it stays cold we can adjust. Thank you Nelson.
