What if you know that they want you to fill in the blanks of the triangles and circles, but want to say "technically none because none are complete".
@edpovey15 күн бұрын
It's just an example of top down and bottom up processing. If you say "technically none" then you are processing from the bottom up.

Thanks a lot for your videos! They're great!! Could you please, as a professional, recommend a book that will help me understand how to teach children, what to teach, how to plan a lesson? I really have a lot of struggle with teaching children. I just don't know what to do. Please please help. Thanks in advance!

Learning Teaching by Jim Scrivener is a good book to learn about general teaching skills and concepts.

@edpovey thanks a million! Are there any approaches and methods that we as teachers use especially for teaching children? How do you organize your lessons for children? Do you use 3Ps framework?
@edpovey4 ай бұрын
@@马陆飞 I suggest a mix of methods - TPR, CLT, TBLT, audiolingual, even a bit of CLIL with simplified language. Use multiple intelligences and Bloom's Taxonomy as references for materials, activities and lesson plans. PPP framework is a little ol fashioned (audiolingual method). Look into ECRIF and PDP, but don't feel limited by lesson plan frameworks.

@@马陆飞 another good book for teachers is "English for Primary Teachers" by Mary Slattery and Jane Willis. It includes many dialogues from classrooms to show teacher-student interactions.

Dear Edward, I recently came across your program on KZbin about framework lesson plans and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. Your presentation was the epitome of professionalism, beauty, and simplicity, making complex concepts easily accessible. It’s remarkable how you managed to distill information that would typically require reading several dense books into a clear and concise format. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for your efforts. Your skillful teaching has saved me countless hours of study and has provided me with invaluable insights. Furthermore, I would be extremely grateful if you could consider creating practical guides for Speaking and Writing Lesson Plans, particularly tailored for CELTA course trainees. Your expertise would be incredibly beneficial for those of us looking to utilize such plans in our Teaching Practice. Lastly, I regret not discovering your work sooner. Your contribution to the field is truly invaluable. Warm regards, Hamid

Hello Edward! Which teaching method did you apply to this LP pls?
@edpovey5 ай бұрын
No specific method. It's just a lesson I did with some adults. It could be weak CLT (meaning focus + scaffolding) but it's just a general lesson as an example with personalizing, contextualizing and other ideas. Thanks for your comment!

@edpovey6 ай бұрын
Young learners don't learn rules in a deductive way. They can't explicitly analyze language for structure and form. They learn language more naturally in an inductive way. Repetition and meaningful practice (for example with toys) are good. You can use drilling (audiolingual method), TPR, visual support, realia, guessing games, flashcards, songs, etc. Lots of practice and then check through questions and observation.
