The base is silicone. But even with everyday use still in good shape

You have the upright part of the stand (with the adjustment screw), facing the wrong way. If you deconstruct the stand into pieces then reattach the stand with the adjustment screw facing out from the espresso machine, you then can then move the stem closer to the espresso machine and slide the scale further underneath the espresso machine, while still leaving the pearl scales display visible.
