What a gem to find.brings back memories of the nets along the cost whare I stay in Aberdeen,I used to go down with my father and watch them bring in the salmon. There also used to be a boat that would put a net out at the mouth of the Dee and they would pull it up on the beach. There was a lot of the other type along the beaches but they are all gone now.

This is how I best remember Dumfries. Great video, took me right back to the 80s. It was great when you could drive around the town. Thank you!

Looks a lot like the river Severn , I worked with two guys who fished the Severn at Frampton. Both grew up adding to their families income by fishing and shooting on the river. Lathe nets, and elvers , and eels geese, and ducks. Sadly both have passed away and their knowledge and skills are gone with them. God bless, Geoff and Dasher.

Brilliant but just a shame even the top of the range camcorder was poor. Would have been fab to see the actual shop names etc and I wonder what was on at the Cinema

Such a shame to see these methods lost, though it is very necessary. The damage was done long before even these days though, it’s a shame the impact it must have had on communities

Always reminded me of the pretentious old men at the zoo, bull dozers did a good job here worked on the build with r and d studied 76/78 and 86/88 learned more at Glasgow uni and remotely at universities ; Harvard , university of taiwain, Tasmania, Hong Kong, Beijing ! I thought dagcot was deservedly extinct. Interesting to see it just before it was herried(old Scots)
