I've been a fan of Rebecca's work for a long time, but didn't realize it was cold wax. I just discovered it and am even more thrilled watching her process. Beautiful work!

I would like a soft sheen finish to my paintings rather than the totally matte finish that the oil and wax creates. How can I achieve this? Can you advise me on how to mix the wax medium with varnish to get a soft sheen?

Pamela Harrison, a product called Galkyd can be added to Gamblin cold wax to reduce the matte finish, and provide gloss. They also make a varnish. More information on the gambling website.

Thank you Rebecca. I was lucky enough to see one of your paintings at Fresh Art fair in Cheltenham when I met your agent. Lovely depth and surface quality!

Hi I love your work, you are my inspiration to start me using cold wax, I was wondering can I use cold wax on canvas?? Or do I use hard bord?? Please TFS Mairead in Ireland

Cold wax painting

Mairead Harkin , sorry I just I know saw your comment. You can use cold wax on canvas but if it's very thick it will probably crack , or if it's built up in layers. you can add the product called Galkyd Light to make the paint film more flexible. It is a Gamblin product and you can visit their website for more info.

the best painting surface is some type of board. I use a cradled Birch panel but I know those are not widely available in Europe. You can use hardboard if you prime it, or paper made for oil painting, such as Arches oil paper.
