Never have I seen such a grotesque growth of moss on stone. Must be in the deep, swampy south.

God Bless you! They are beautiful. They will be gleaming white in no time. Stones I thought were impossible to clean, one year later are totally restored. D2 is a great product.

The date on the stone reads “died Oct, 1849”. The stone was most likely laid in 1850. By the measure of the date of your cleaning, the next cleaning will be 2196. Let’s pray the next three generations will clean this stone for prosperity. I cleaned one dated 1886. That means it will need a restoration in 2158. I won’t live to see the day, but, hopefully, someone will take up the mantle to clean it. It’s just an obsession with me to clean the old ones. It’s an honor especially if they read, “Gone but not Forgotten” and are a total mess.

You probably shouldn't do this on a windy day, you also don't need a second coating a D2. Also try as best you can to scrub in circles

I think it is a good idea to have squads of cleaners on Veterans day to clean up some of those veteran headstones in cemeteries not managed by the Federal Government. I have seen some real nasty looking headstones of some of our Civil War dead.

Be careful about cleaning headstones. In some places here in Texas it's totally frowned on. I don't know about anywhere else but I would check

I have a really dumb question my house sits adjacent to a cemetery it hasn't had any new burials since like the sixties and some of the stones are in pretty much the same condition as the two that you worked on here the cemetery beside my house is not very big I think it's like a old family plot I live kind of out in the boonies but I would like to know what kind of chemicals and where to get them at so I can clean the stones in the cemetery next to my house
@melindaostergren81152 жыл бұрын
Please consider dropping the dumb question part. You’re sharing interesting information about what you’re observing and it’s fascinating to think about. Have you tried Queen Google yet? What a mitzvah it is to tend to gravestones!
@calicocritterscrafts8862 жыл бұрын
From what I can find on Good Ole Google, water with a small amount of washing up liquid and a very soft nylon hand brush is the best way. Other cleaning agents are too acidic or basic and damaging to the stone.

D2 Environmental cleaner. Same thing that is used at Arlington Cemetery
@chuckwatson58112 жыл бұрын
I agree about D2, but I think you can only get it online. Wet and Forget is also now an approved solution and is available at a lot of hardware stores.
