If you want to make a clean cut in cement board… I used a cheap tile wet saw from harbor freight and got beautiful clean cuts… realize this is too late to help you, but for anyone else needing to. It was a wet and messy outdoor task, so not suitable for your weather situation at the time anyway, but the wet cutting also eliminated flying dust while cutting, so I thought I would share this. We were doing board and battten siding using the 24” wide soffit panels vertically. Cutting the battens and widow trim where ripping was needed was nice and clean both for the cuts, and the cleanup/dust control… Little tile saw had to be clamped down to a heavy table to cut the big sheets and long stuff, but worked great overall.

My well water is acidic and copper pipes so also was dealing with the blue green stains in the bath tub and toilets. Put in neutralizing filter, but that makes the water hard so had to put in a softener down the line from neutralizer, but that takes care of the problem. If I had known ahead of time I would have plumbed with plastic or Pex instead of copper.

Thinking of the robins under the solar array: doesn't it get hot under the solar panels? I'm guessing the answer is no since you would have thought of that, but why not? Don't the panels themselves get hot? I like the plan for the backsplash. It's going to be very eye catching and unusual when you get it done.
@OvertheRiverandThroughtheWoods
@OvertheRiverandThroughtheWoods 15 күн бұрын
Well, that did occur to us about the solar array maybe getting warm. But the robins are hopefully a better judge of that than we are... They had three eggs under there last I checked. Fingers crossed they don't get cooked!

Yaaay for the phoebes!! I'm SO happy they've been successful. I do love how you guys create habitat, accommodating the little birds and watching over them 😊. The backsplash reminds me of the lovely, creative dwellings I've seen where they inbed glass bottles in the walls, often adobe. It's such a beautiful effect. Very nice. I'm honestly not sure how I'd feel about having bears for neighbors 😄. I just wouldn't want to have a face to face while out walking in the woods. When I was a young child, living in the eastern woods, I had no fear. I was just a part of it. You guys are so competent and knowledgeable about everything from bugs to bears 😁👍. Fingers crossed for the phoebes! (Don't count your phoebes before they hatch). We are feeling a bit ambivalent about the bears ourselves. We love that it's so wild here, but we try to be prudent with our trash and we don't feed the birds. Beyond that we keep our eyes open but we're not too paranoid.

I'm surprised more people don't use rotary desiccant dehumidifiers. They do an amazing job of keeping moisture down in the trailer during winter and add some heat to the space at the same time. They are also small and inexpensive and don't use much power unlike compressor dehumidifiers.

Yes! We love the crosstrek. Some vehicles (rear wheel drive, I think) can't even make it up our hill on a dry day in the summer! We never even thought to worry about it except on rare days like the one in the video. But we did choose it very deliberately after buying this property!

@riariaria
@riariaria 21 күн бұрын
Very nice and functional! Please beware that a vehicle’s towing capacity isn’t just a factor of engine size or its horsepower. Many six cylinder vehicles have ZERO towing capacity. Vehicles that are designed for towing have specific suspensions, breaking systems, transmissions, cooling and electrical systems that can handle the additional loads and forces that towing a trailer requires. Just because you own a six cylinder car or plan to purchase an extremely light trailer doesn’t mean you can safely tow with that combination. Always check your owner’s manual and stay within the manufacturers limits for towing capacity, hitch weight and payload. Not only is it illegal, but your safety and those who share the road with you depend on you observing those limits.
@dane9871
@dane9871 21 күн бұрын
Not true that V-6 have zero towing limit. Our Honda Pilot, the Toyota Highlander XLT and other midsize SUVs have a 5,000 lbs tow capacity. Most minivans with V-6 have 3,500 tow capacity.

Add an air pressure fitting on the water lines, immediately after the shut off valve, to blow out the water for winterizing. Or add a valve immediately after the supply shut off to act as air flow, and vacuum the water out of the lines for winterizing. And of course leave the fixtures slightly open. Will you have adequate battery and solar to power a pipe wrap warming element?

Hi J.A., We do have a solar array for the property with battery storage. Charles might add some technical details here, but he has been impressed with the efficiency of the heat pump (at least for chilly mornings in the long days of spring - It wouldn't be a practical way to heat during the winter for many reasons). The air conditioning should be ok to run because we'll need it most on sunny days when the system harnesses more electricity than we can use.
