I purchased this model about 3 weeks ago, and i am enjoying it thoroughly. I replaced the pedals with Shimano spd, but the supplied pedals should work well with regular street shoes. I would never ride a recumbent without some form of foot restraint. The tubes have presta valves. The rear wheel is 24" so the trike has reasonably good speed. The Bosch performance line motor with Kiox display is first class. The motor is absolutely quiet. Terratrike has a 10% discount program for veterans also.

I have a Speedmachine and a Grasshopper, both with the SRAM 24 gearing. The Speedmachine I find is better for long tours, the Grasshopper is more nimble and better in urban riding and also a bit lighter, plus it packs into the back of the car. Both are very comfortable. Indeed they don’t climb so well, but are fast enough for me on the flat, and are really good if there is a headwind. They are expensive, but very well built, and the Velotechnik service is top notch. I highly recommend either one if you suffer from back or other pains, or if you want a relaxed way to cycle. 😎
@TheMsPato7 ай бұрын
How much slower is the Grasshopper on average compared to the speedmachine?
@brucebrown96047 ай бұрын
@@TheMsPato Not much slower, if at all, possibly better uphill, but probably slower in a headwind due to the more upright position. I think it also has to do with how the bike is equipped: my Grasshopper is barebones and light, my Speedmachine is equipped for Touring.

I bought my Grasshopper fx new in Germany in 2021. I added the optional rear cargo rack, water bottle holder, telescoping front end, improved rear suspension, underslung handlebars, mid-frame pannier racks, hydraulic brakes, light system with dynamo hub, better seat, flag, and Rohloff geared hub. I absolutely love riding it! It is incredibly comfortable and doesn't make my nether regions sore when I ride it. It is a little slower than a regular road bike, it requires more pedaling effort from your quads, and it is bear to ride when going up hills. However, on flat, hard surfaces, it is a dream to ride. Even bumpy surfaces are relatively pleasant to ride over. I can - and have - ridden it for hours at a time. I don't need specially padded shorts or clothes to ride it. I'm not hunched over my handlebars and my neck isn't sore from having to look up all the time. Plus, I can fold it up and put it in my trunk when I want to go somewhere with it. Twice, I've taken it to vacation spots here in Germany and I've also taken it on the train. It is more sensitive to weight shifts and carrying heavy items on the rear rack. It also takes practice to learn how to ride well; it handles differently than a normal bike. Despite this, I enjoy riding it more than I ever have a regular bike. Overall, it's a very well-made bike with a lot of neat features. I look forward to many more years with it. I highly recommend this model and manufacturer to anyone.

I’ve been considering adding one of these bikes for my travels and Rohloffs are sweet. I’m curious how you geared it. What size chain ring did you use for the crank and did you stick with the standard 16 tooth cog for the SpeedHub?

Whats the mile range on a moderate bike trail? I have the same tricycle and im trying to decide between front motor drive or mid drive motor. A also dont want something to fast, this trikes are a bit tricky on turns.
@industrialbicycles Жыл бұрын
We feel the hub motors are best. With a mid drive motor you need to run an adapter for the motor to fit inside the frame plus you will not be able to run a chain guard with a mid drive motor.

We recently purchased a regular e-bike for my wife with the same Bosch motor and a 400 W-hr battery pack. It's worked great for her, and it would probably work great for me. One big difference I see on her bike compared to this trike is battery security. She has high security key for removing the battery from the frame tube and storing it indoors to avoid unsuitable ambient thermal conditions (writing from a warm corner of Canada, which is not always warm by any stretch). How theft proof is this battery? How easy/hard is it to remove from the bike to store indoors? Is the battery set up to recharge both in situ and offline (indoors) over night? Replacement cost for my wife's battery is $800-$1000, or so we were told by the bike shop at time of purchase. If it's bolted on, then it needs to be stored outdoors all winter at ambient temperature (we have a shed not a garage). In this climate, that would be far from ideal for battery longevity.

TerraTrike Rambler EVO is specified to have a Microshift 8-speed cassette 12-32, not a 10-speed as it says here. At 360p image quality, I can't argue the point on the video evidence. Is this video even about the Rambler? The show notes are not informative.
@industrialbicycles Жыл бұрын
Information coming straight from Terratrikes website says that their Electric Assist EVO has a microSHIFT 11-36 10 Speed cassette. There is a Rambler EVO which is 8 speed but that is a separate trike than this one.
