Gives me chills. I have the utmost respect for the buglers who attend to our Veterans. But the Bagpipes have a special place in my heart. Semper Fi! 🇺🇸

How do the smallpipes differ from the concert pipes in A?
@piperscove3624 Жыл бұрын
That is an extremely difficult question to answer. "Smallpipes" are more of a category than a specific product. There are Kitchen Pipes, Boarder Pipes. Practice Pipes, etc. Every maker has a slightly different take on the idea with different materials, shapes, keys/pitches/reeds, number of drones, (even the) direction of drones, etc. The TLDR is basically that none of them are loud enough to play in a crowded bar, so spend what you're comfortable spending to get a set that is good for practicing in an apartment, by a fire pit, or in a church-like setting. It is absolutely NOT a step between the practice chanter and the pipes. It is a completely different instrument, in the same way that a Ukulele is to a Guitar. Similar, but also very, very different.

@piperscove3624 thanks for the reply, I guess what I'm looking for eventually is something I can play along with a fiddle/mandolin and guitar. I already have a set if GHP so no change in fingering. Just don't want to be drowned out either lol
@piperscove3624 Жыл бұрын
@Greg Eisen Depends on if you plan on playing live or recording. To be honest, in most cases I recommend a Blair Digital Chanter. It solves just about every problem in regards to tuning and volume. It is an all in one solution.

Many years ago I attended the funeral of a retired Air Force Colonel. Retired since about 1980. He actually wore the Army Uniform for a while before the USAF became a separate service. Flew combat missions in Korea and was a Squadron Commander in Vietnam. After his retirement worked as a civilian in the A-10 program at Edwards AFB and then was part of the A-10 integration after testing. I've seen his Official USAF photo and his fruit salad was large. At his funeral, there was a single bagpiper. The one that got me was Amazing Grace. Then I started to hear some aircraft approaching. I started to hear "abide with me" playing on the bagpipes as four A-10s did the missing man flyover. Both of his sons dropped to their knees crying. Honestly by this time I was having problems standing. They don't call that aircraft the Warthog for nothing. It is one of the ugliest aircraft in the USAF inventory! However, ask some troops how beautiful they are when they come to your rescue!

bring back a lot of memories being on the uss missouri (bb-63) from 11/13/1990 to 3/31/1992, underway or not at 22:00 that means taps, over the loud speaker, each night taps would play and after that lights are out, as we all sleep our worries away.

i purchased a Uilleann Pipe Chanter years ago and its worked out really great, as i use synthetic reeds in it. I was wondering if you sell anything like that? Mine is a simple rosewood pipe chanter that is made so it can hook to a bag or you can play it independent of the Bag.
@piperscove36242 жыл бұрын
Hi Dominic, we don't do anything with Uilleann pipes. They sound great but are an extremely niche instrument, within a niche instrument category. We have had a few requests and honestly don't have a single place to direct you towards. I wish I could be of more assistance.
@dominiclapinta85372 жыл бұрын
@@piperscove3624 I was just curious if you guys so any parts to them. I bought one a while ago and it had an adapter so the chanter could be played like a practice chanter if yo use synthetic reeds in it, so I thought maybe that you guys might sell some. Thanks

Appreciate the overview- can you tell me how they are reeded… same as both or different? Also… moisture control… is there a twist trap of something similar? (Also, outstanding playing really well done!)
@piperscove36242 жыл бұрын
Hi Leo. Thank you very much. I'm not exactly what you mean by "how they are reeded" but I've experimented with about 10 different practice reeds and the Frazer-Warnock is by far the best fit and sound for both sizes. That is the reed they come with and the reed the maker, and I, recommend. There is no Twist Trap.

No. I think bugle or a Bb trumpet is worthy of this song. It was a bugle that played this song was it not? Not a flute, flugelhorn, or a french horn right? Surely not a reed instrument.
