Ahh, it has cylinder deactivation. Must be quite frugal on fuel then 😂

Congrats for not saying "Lake Ullswater", "Lake Coniston". Bassenthwaite is the only 'Lake' in the Lake District, the others are waters, meres or tarns.

Back in the early sixties my family went on holiday to the New Forest. We visited the Montagu Motor Museum where I remember being well impressed with 'Golden Arrow', Still impressed over sixty years on, Dad was a truck mechanic and a 'Leyland Man', there was a 'Leyland-Thomas' car there and Dad told me the tragic tale of John Parry-Thomas,

Hey where are Mickey Thompson, Summer Brothers, and Al Teague wheel driven speed records.
@ScarfAndGoggles11 күн бұрын
Thanks for your interest! Technically, none of those set outright World Land Speed records, hence they’re not included in this video. However, I’ve made a video telling the story of the Summers Brothers and Goldenrod, and hope to cover Thompson and Teague one day too

As a very young boy I was given a tin clockwork bluebird by Mr Villa ( allways mr villa, never Leo, to us lads he showed nothing but kindness A true gent . Ps god do I wish we hadn’t played with that toy to death. Ian h

I cannot remember this tragic event as I was only 4 but I was aware of it from an early age. Donald Campbell is one of my all time heroes…..there are not many, but he is up there. Maybe Number 1. Anthony Hopkins gave an amazing performance and I remember watching this on TV and being incredibly moved by his performance. Anthony is one of my all time favourite actors as well, as it happens. He did seem to play it with a certain empathy and I am guessing that he admired Donald also. He is a genius actor of course.A great Welshman.I have made my son aware of Donald’s achievements. Makes you proud to be British Thank you for posting this.

I seem to get pulled into your videos. I've been to Utah many times. As a kid I thought it would be great to try but I was a kid. I have gone 150 a few times and that's fast enough. I kind of remember that feeling I had 50 years ago when I watch this stuff. Thanks!

I gave up street racing Eight years ago 😢 I moved to a town where there are no stop lights. I have a 1946 Chevrolet flatbed pickup outside setting on a 95 Caprice Ex-Police car chassis that i needs finished up, wiring, gas tank installed and a few other things. Looks Great setting there. I've had several people stop by the Church and ask if it's for sale (no for sale sign but a closed sign) i tell them I'm going to finish it Sometime like old men do. Point is Full Throttle living is deadly and when you figure the potential costs for what you actually get ain't worth it. Especially when you have Grandkids ✌️ ☮️ 🛻

Think if they ran these cars today with modern tires, modern gasoline, modern metallurgy and modern engine computing these cars would be a lot faster.

Funding is such a big factor in this competition. Breedlove was working uphill and virtually alone the whole time. Lack of funding, bad weather, engine trouble, etc., just colluded against his breaking the record. The Sonic Arrow is such a gorgeous vehicle and after that high speed U-turn, I;ll bet it could have achieved much higher speeds.

You look at this car and then look at the Triplex special the difference is stark, the triplex special was built for an older time, it was brute force with basic aerodynamics, it didn’t even have a gearbox, Golden Arrow used modern thinking and design, it was lightweight and compact yet powerful, you can’t beat British engineering.
