I am mbbs graduate from India who wishes to appear for MRCS. Is it an compulsion to go through core training for 2 years and then appear for the MRCS exam or we can appear for the exam directly?

This is a very popular question. Once you have your MBBS qualification you can technically sit the MRCS exam. You can therefore do the exam directly after medical school. The reason doctors typically sit the exam after 2 years of core training is so that they have had enough post graduate experience to pass the exam with the first sit. The MRCS Part A exam has a low pass rate and a limited total number of attempts but if you have the time to study and good academic support it is worth considering. It definitely does not do harm to start familiarising yourself with the content then book the exam when you have an idea of what preparation is involved and when you feel you will be ready by. We hope that helps answer your question. We run courses for the MRCS exam with content and question revision. Keep an eye out on our social media and web pages for more information. Best of luck with your career!
