Love the red coat! On your nails, that last linen dress.....it looks nice on you belted. Challenge yourself to dye it a color you love to wear. It would likely mean that you will need to launder it alone in the future for the first dozen or so washes.

Your sweaters are stunning. I think I need to try a shirt dress. They seem to look nice on a lot of different body types. I love your linen dress with the belt.

I love challenges and this project could be fun! I actually made two clasp bags from scratch a few years ago. It was a pain in a b..t to hand stitch the clasp but I enjoyed making a pattern and figuring out, making lining etc. I made one for my daughter and for my sister. I planned to make one for myself but this Birkin would be more practical for my lifestyle. Thanks for the discount!

i don't usually need to make broad shoulder adjustments so i couldn't tell you. but there's lots of tutorials online--do a youtube search and you should be able to find good instructions. Jen Stern's channel is a good place to look.

I loved seeing your 2024 wins and fails. My favorites are the two long shirt dresses. The white one with the cherries is my absolute favorite. I think I may own the McCalls pattern that you used the denim to sew. It definitely makes me want to sew it in the coming year. Thank you for sharing. 😊

So many fabulous makes this year! 🎉 If you don’twant to re-fashion the denim dress that’s too short, try wearing it unbuttoned, layered over a T-shirt, with jeans or leggings or even just pants. I have a couple shirt dresses that I wear more often that way than I do as a dress. It’s lovely and it looks very nice on you. Also, I really like your denim romantic top, but I wonder if you would wear it more often if you wore it unbuttoned at the neck, just to give it a little movement and to show a hint of skin. I agree with you the color of the summer dress isn’t your best, but it is really flattering on you belted. maybe you could accessorize it with a colorful necklace to help draw attention to your lovely face instead of the color of the dress. Great job! Looking forward to what you create in 2025 ❤️

I really appreciate all the ideas - I have tried wearing the shirt more open at the neck and it's better but i still think i need to slim it down a bit to be less billowy.

Solid year in sewing! For the Joli blouse, you could make petal sleeves and unbutton the top two buttons, just to open it up and still have a romantic feel. I absolutely love the idea of opening up the short denim dress another person suggested, with a tee underneath and pants! Fantastic year Sara! I especially love the red coat!

My biggest win and biggest fail of 2024 were both the Itch to Stitch Cantabria dress! I made a yellow poplin version that I feel so professional in and wore at least once a week in the summer. I also made a coral and blue version where the colorblocking looks corny IRL instead of bold but professional like in my head. I might take it apart in the spring and change the blue to coral or white.

so interesting! a great lesson on how much fabric choice matters. thanks for sharing.

Turn the denim shirt into a vest. You have a great fit with the Butterick one.Wear the denim dress as a duster or chop it off.The slip dress was bland and too big on you. Maybe turn it into a skirt that you can wear something flattering with. It might look good with that beautiful white cardigan. You wear intense colours well….thinking red coat.

Thanks for this once again inspiring video. I love your denim shirt, it makes me want to sew the same one. You don't like the fit but it looks great on you - colour and style. My biggest fail this year: a tweed jacket. I should have used fusible material all over because the fabric was coming apart. And I didn't. Too bad, I love tweed fabrics and I would have loved the Chanel look (well from far away, let's face it) and the fun of the pinkish fabric with tinges of spring green.
@knottygnome14 күн бұрын
i feel your pain. i've worked with those loosely woven tweeds before and they are such a nightmare!

Many great wins Sara! I’ve had a loss with a similar collar ruffle attached to a collar stand to your denim shirt - I thought I would love it or it looked great on the promo image. But at the end of the day, I’m petite in height and I think I didn’t have the neck height to carry it off, and I didn’t like the feel of it against the top of my neck. It swallowed me. I didn’t even finish that blouse. But I made it again omitting the collar stand, just sandwiching the ruffle between the top and facing, and I love the result. The ruffle still stands up vertical against my neck, but not so high… a lot more comfortable.
@knottygnome14 күн бұрын
great idea! yes i think the neckline height is one of the things i don't love about my shirt.

You are an amazingly prodigious sewist! I'm in awe of your production rate. Thx for sharing my favorite of your 2024 makes was your red raincoat, the dark green denim-like barn coat, your ivory/white cable knit sweater and your three shirt dresses (long denim, red floral print, and ditsy-like print for autumn. Congratulations. I would be jumping for joy if I produced as much as you did in a 12-month period. Oh, also, your sewing quality is superb. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Awesome makes! I love the linen slip dress! I think if you shortened it, you might like it better. Also put ties in the side seams and tie it in back, which will give it more shape and lastly try ice cube dying with your favorite colors to make it unique. Linen takes dye really well. With your denim shirt, try tapering the side seams and maybe a couple darts. Best wishes and Merry Christmas!

Out of all your makes, just 3 that you are unhappy with is amazing. You could change the colour of the linen slip dress. Looks like you could probably layer it over a turtleneck and tights too. Maybe a curved hem would make it seem less boxy to you. It looked great with the belt. I don't know if this suggestion might be out of your style zone but what about adding a lacy ruffle to the jean dress? It would make it longer and you could add it to the sleeves too. It could look like it's layered. It would be cute and really change it up from your other denim dress.

I’ve had so many fails this year. The issue is my body changed and I’m having a hard time knowing what will look good on me and how to fit this new body.
@knottygnome13 күн бұрын
i can see how that would be very challenging! from other videos i've watched, they often give advice to go very slowly when adding new pieces and don't try to acquire a whole new wardrobe at once. basically they suggest you add a new silhouette, learn how to style it for your changing body, then you can add more of the same or try something different depending on how the first piece works for you. HTH.
@whatnow836214 күн бұрын
The linen dress would look cute shorter or you could dye it a different colour. Maybe a rust or a burgundy.

For the denim dress that’s too short, you could add a ruffle to the bottom if you have more of the lyocell denim. I think that would be super cute on you.

You have so many wins, well done Sara. Hard to pick favourites though. Could I make a suggestion? Instead of cutting into that lovely denim dress, have you thought perhaps to restyle it? I looked at you in it, (I understand your feeling it is too short )- how about you wearing it, as is, as a jacket type top, perhaps worn open over a white tshirt, Or over a pair of skinny black or denim pants? That would look fabulous, instead of cutting up your hard work? Just a suggestion. 😊

i did try wearing it over some leather trousers but i just don't like tunic length tops. i think i would wear it more if i shortened it.

Another great, to the point video! So nice to look back and see the wins. Some if those pieces will serve you well for years! With the dress that shrunk, I would first remove the sleeves. I have a dress that I love but felt tight in the back, and making it sleeveless mashes it so much more comfortable and wearable. I really like your linen slip dress! You might be able to style it with a plain top under and your cable cardigan in the spring? Maybe a chunky belt?

I wonder about washing that jean shirt. I might throw it in the wash every week for a month or so. Maybe soften it up and shrink it a bit? All look wonderful. I agree that your white sweater and red coat are great hits!

I believe if denim is too hard, put a can of coke cola in the wash. It will come out soft and beautiful.
@knottygnome13 күн бұрын
thanks! i have washed the shirt a few times and i think it has probably shrunk as much as it's going to. i'm currently thinking about adding some fisheye darts in the back to bring it in, and maybe the shoulders too.
