$787k in my 401k and $160k in a cash balance pension plan. I'll be 59 in Dec. (Gen X) I'm hoping to retire in March to make 30 years with the company before I'm surplused. *crossing fingers

I LOVE my FSA! (lol, I love my MTV). I have "cadillac" insurance that I don't want to give up, so an FSA is good for anyone who really likes their employer-sponsored plans. Additionally, if one will be receiving retirement-healthcare (from their employer, upon retirement) then an FSA would be good for you too, since you wouldn't need to fund your own healthcare.

Great analysis as always! Love to spread the word of getting started and get those savings up. Even starting late and having something is better than having nothing!

Im 42 at $130,000 in my tsp. Started at 35, maxed out last year, maxing this year. Govt took $6k from my tsp for working over 2240. Fighting it now, 30 years of compounding is $100,000. I hope I win.

Awesome video, very validating as this is very close to how we operate. My wife is stay at home, i opened a spousal roth for her this year. The discretionary and annual subscription buckets are great ideas. What HYSAs do you use?

I have both Roth IRAs and Roth 401ks... the Roth 401k amounts pale beside my traditional 401k/457/etc plans. The ROTH IRAs outweigh my traditional IRAs. The 401k amounts are much higher than my IRAs. Roth came out about 10 years into my working life, so those amounts are less.

It's stunning to me that people/couples need to be taught this simple lesson. If one or both spouses can't bring themselves to combine finances because of distrust or some weird need for autonomy they shouldn't be married because they don't understand the concept.

Double taxation and miss out on the 3% match. Seems like a 401k loan is not worth it. Better to pay taxes and a 10% penalty.

If the current executive administration retains power, I'm immediately putting everything in my TSP fund into the G Fund or I will immediately withdraw everything and pay the taxes. Right or wrong, I don't trust the current administration and I got burned badly in 2008 and it took what seemed like forever for it to recover! BTW, I'm retired and just letting it all ride in the C Fund.

I think, another way to look at many universities/colleges is similar to a product from companies. "Don't buy something based off of future promise for yourself." There may be no guarantee you'll get that job or the top salary. You may even end up not like whatever you got your degree once you're in the actual job field. They say to always set practical and realistic goals along the way and to have backup plans should one fails. Just my opinion.

We are going to open a 529 plan for our 2 year old daughter and our newborn son. As long as we keep contributing money into the 529 account for them, at 15 we can rollover $35k to their roth ira account correct?
@Random-ld6wg4 күн бұрын
does your child need to be finished with college before you can transfer from the 529 to a roth? i am putting in money to my son's roth up to whatever he earned for the year. i do not have a tab in my son's 529 regarding roth withdrawals. my son will definitely have a lot of money left over from his 529.

Step One: Change your underwear. Cause there's a 99% probability that you crapped your pants. Step Two: Buy new underwear, cause now you can afford to. Step Three: Look poor by wearing a simple white t-shirt in your profile photo.

Too bad that markets don’t move In a linear manner as you detail in your spreadsheet. It just doesn’t work like that . A useful video would to build your spreadsheet using real returns of the last 25 years to illustrate the potential of how markets flow which includes volatility. Of which most folks freak out and that’s why there are so few millionaires 😂
