You can color wafer paper prior to cutting flowers, with airbrush or dry petal dusts

what is that fondant made out of? is it edible? sorry if my question sounds silly hehe this is my first time getting into this stuff. i have a task to create a dummy wedding cake that is durable, so i'm a bit clueless. thanks!

Yes, fondant is edible! It's also called a sugar paste. You can make your own with marshmallows and powdered sugar. I have an updated tutorial here kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ7WY2WhZsmqhpI

@ Fondant would be the cheapest option. You can buy Wilton and add tylose powder; it will harden and last forever (I have cake dummies covered in fondant I made 7 years ago and still fine).

what is the process for using this colored paper to make flowers? do you still use conditioner (or does it make the black wipe off), can you still vein and shape petals before assembling?

For black color, I won't use it for flowers, but for decorations. It stays flexible and you can shape it after coloring. Depends on the method, but if you are using gel color, you can lightly steam your petals to put in the veiner.

These stems should be good for a long time, I haven't notice any changes. However, they still taste and look like dry pasta, so I won't consider eating them.

Did you clean your dummy prior to using? You can put a piece of parchment paper to prevent it from sticking.

Yes. Make sure to check your humidity in the fridge, but if you use my method - it will be just fine.

I use freeze-dried fruit powder for my coloring needs. They come in 8 oz bags that last a long time and taste delicious.

Thank you Anna! This is such a great idea and so clever. I got a couple nail polish organizer totes from Amazon that has a foam grid that separates each bottle. My Chef Master and Sugarflair gel fit perfectly, like the carrier was made just for those. I also bought a few paint pallets with a secure lid. It’s hard to explain, but I store all of my petal dusts in them. Also, thank you for sharing how you used a label maker. I have one and labeled everything in my kitchen. My husband says I’m neurotic, lol! There’s nothing wrong with wanting an organized kitchen where it’s easy to find what I’m looking for.

Anna, I can 100% relate to everything said in this video. I made a conscious decision to not use instagram over a month ago because it was becoming extremely exhausting. Most people don’t realise the time and effort that goes into creating and editing reels etc, not to mention all of the points you mentioned. Instead of focusing on growing my business, I was focusing on posting content for instagram. Thanks for sharing x

Anna, thank you for your candid and honest opinion of social media. I completely agree with you and feel the same way. For the new year, I'm thinking about taking social media off of my phone and only interacting a certain period of time on my laptop. It will really help me focus on building relationships with venue and vendor owners in my local area in the wedding business. I too, scroll a lot on IG and feel so inadequate seeing all of the beautiful, amazing cakes. I know I'm good at creating beautiful wedding cakes, but IG has a way of making artists feel so small. Thank you so much for this video. It has really made me think about social media differently.

Oh, Patty... I totally understand that. It's so demanding and it kills the creativity. I truly don't understand how you can see something a thousand times superior (a cake design, a fir body, a healthy habit) and not think less about yourself. I just don't want that in my life, because it makes me feel bad about myself and dull my desire to create, even though I know I can make a good design. I agree with you, it's so much better to build real relationships and support your local businesses.

Yes! That's exactly what I use it for now - just have a representation on the Internet, but not to sell directly. So the amount of effort should be proportional to that. I'm planning on making a series of videos about Pinterest next year.
