We are going in a month. What do we need to bring for clothing? Looks like coat and boots are provided?
@grahamo225 күн бұрын
If on HX, you get the red jacket to keep and you are loaned the big waterpoof boots, Theres plenty of suggested packing lists available online on Tripadvisor and other peoples blogs
@adventurouswallrus4 күн бұрын
There is advice provided on the HX website which for sure you should take a look at. www.travelhx.com/en-gb/stories/antarctica-faqs/ Specifically on boots then yes boots for excursions are provided if it is Antarctica only. You need something for the ship. Might want something warm and robust for on deck and more comfortable for inside but not necessary. The jackets we were provide with were not waterproof or especially warm so I would take your own. Waterproof trousers are a must. Aside from that I would say not as much as you think. Dress on board is mainly outdoor type clothing. Warm woollen under layers is probably the main thing. If you have other questions let me know. You’ll have a great time. Enjoy.

What do most people wear for dinners? Do you have to dress up?
@adventurouswallrus6 күн бұрын
Absolutely not. Most people are wearing jeans or outdoor wear, base layers..Onesies, even matching ones not unknown. If dining in the more upscale Lindstrom restaurant you might make more of an effort but no requirement.

@@NoPtoLeftBehind Thankyou. Yes they are. Ours were not super waterproof so really for keeping out the wind. They are now giving out new HX branded ones which are blue and look a bit more tasteful IMO. You can find them online. Cannot comment on what these ones are like.

I heard that the more passengers you have onboard over 250 people it becomes harder to enjoy all the expeditions since you have to wait for all the people to get out, HX Expeditions ships carry 540 passengers, how did that work out?
@adventurouswallrus26 күн бұрын
Thanks for the question. There were about 430 people on our sailing. To my knowledge everyone got to go on the included excursions every day. Yes it is quite a logistical operation and always subject to weather but HX are very experienced at doing it. For the optional excursions then there is limited availability and you really have to choose one or two that you really want to do. For the kayaking we did then I think they get up to 2 groups per day so maximum would be 150 but I think it is normally more like 100 as weather not always suitable. I hope that helps. Dave. Of course it might be easier in a smaller ship but the prices go up significantly.
@2T7D3C-p2d26 күн бұрын
@@adventurouswallrus Thanks for the information, you are correct HX is very experienced, their ships have lots of amemenities as compared to a smaller 250 passenger ship theirs no arguing there, as for prices, from my research there are so many cruise lines offering Antarctica cruises these days, and the prices are very compeditive in all ship sizes, the smaller ships might not have the space or amenities but they make up in passenger size. Thanks again.
@ixnorp42705 минут бұрын
The three ships that do the Antarctic have capacities of 250 and 490. One does not "have to wait for all the people to get out". The passengers are split into groups, and when your group is called to board the Zodiacs, you go down and board. Therefore, you are never trying to get out of the ship along with everyone else.

Hi there. We just mean it was busy. Sunset was around 9pm and sunrise a bit before 6am. So not as short as at December. The days can be as tiring or not as you wish depending on how many of the activities you do. Overall the cruise is not particularly physically demanding.
