@@RailRide oh no ive ran this locomotive a hand full of times before making this video its just usually when i get a new train i make the video very soon after i get it and not a year after i got the new train but yeah i dont run this big boy very often since its a really expensive model
@RailRide

@@thegrandrailfan That was my pattern as well, most of my channel is comprised of stuff I had in storage prior to my first "permanent" place to run it, and I would put up a consist, run it around a few times, making a video of the session, and then adding the consist to my inventory records as I put it away to make room for the next train (my current setup can only accommodate one train at a time). In time it shifted to running new acquisitions like you described, with the expectation of mixing in older equipment in order to catch up on inventorying them. In recent years this tactic has also bogged down from a sharp influx of new equipment outpacing storage space and other demands on my time As a result I have a number of pricey acquisitions that _should_ have appeared in videos by now (including two Big Boys, a Challenger, Class A and an Allegheny), but are part of a three-ish year backlog of run sessions yet to take place.

I thought I'd check out the ho scale version of MTH's "Little Joe" electric locomotive. Thanks for sharing. I have the O gauge version and it's quite heavy. It's removed from its box with two ribbons that precede the model being placed in the box. At least one "Little Joe" has been preserved in Brazil and possibly a 2nd one may still exist there. The Milwaukee Road last operated their electric locomotives in June 1974 and the South Shore discontinued using their 800s in January 1981. The ones in Brazil operated much later.

The D&S Has "8" operational steam locomotives All are 2-8-2s.; 4 are Baldwins built in 1925, rated 36,000 lbs at the drawbar. They have 3 ALCOs built in 1923, rated at 28,000 lbs at the drawbar. Then they have 1 Baldwin from 1905 that started out as a standard gauge but was converted to a narrow gauge in the early 20th century. As a standard gauge it was rated at 50,000 lbs at the drawbar, but was de-rated to 37,000 lbs after the narrow gauge rebuild. All the engines have been in continuous service since their build dates. The enclosed passenger cars were all built in 1881-1882, but of course have been updated on an ongoing basis. 5 engines have been converted to oil burners for environmental and fire hazard reasons; Colorado is a dry state and range fires are always a consideration. In 2019 the White Pass and Yukon railroad offered to sell some or all of their DL535 narrow gauge diesel locos to the D&S when they were replaced by new motive power. Four were purchased by the D&S, 1 for parts and 3 for yard and miscellaneous service. The 3 in use have all been refurbished and used for both yard work and also one train per day to Silverton. As we all know, diesels are much cheaper to operate than steamers, and the D&S has taken advantage of this by powering its daily (in season) 8:15 train with a pair of the 1200-HP DL535s. In return for taking a ride on a diesel-powered train, the passengers are given a $10 discount per person. For a family of 4 (husband, wife, and 2 kids) that's a savings of $40. Also, some people do not regard it as significant that they're being pulled by diesels instead of steamers. The 9:00 train to Silverton typically uses a double header steamer consist, as there are several substantial uphill grades on the outbound leg. The return leg is downhill, so the lead steamer is detached in Silverton and sent back on its own. There is a shorter trip, about halfway to Silverton, to Cascade Canyon, for those with children having a short attention span, or who want the steam train experience on a shorter trip. It leaves at 9:45 and is back at 3:00 PM. This shorter trip does include most of the truly spectacular parts of the trip, including the high-line and the Cascade Canyon / Animas River portion. The first Silverton train is back at 5:30PM and the 2nd is back at 6:15. For both, there's a 2-hour layover in Silverton, so the passengers can get a good meal in one of the town's restaurants, and also some souvenir shopping. NOTE: (I live in Durango, and am very proud of both my town and the D&S Railroad. I did work in their warehouse one summer and got exposed to a lot of the operational information about it.).

That is not a track inspection light. That light is used at night to tell if your moving or slipping when trying to start your train. It has been a feature on diesels since the 40s.

For the lights there will be a bolt towards the top right about the visor that you unscrew. Inside there should be 2 wires connected to the led. Use a batter and a 2 wires (one negatively charged and one positively charged) and connect each to each crossing light wire. Make sure not to make the positive and negative wires touch but i'm sure you already know that lol
