He clearly states that if an angel was to tell the gathered assembly that ALL except one is to be saved, there would continue on with sinning, without much repetance, taking assurance in what the angel said. But if the angel states the reverese, that only one of you all is saved and the rest damned, then most of you would try to change your lives. The point being, MOST are not damned. MOST go to Purgatory. Some straight to Heaven. Many, to hell. By that margin, we understand that the majority are saved ... and we might take comfort in the fact that the Blood of Our Lord shed during His Passion, has the power to save the majority of souls who do want to be saved.. Christ's sacrifice was not in vain. So do not fear, but continue the struggle, and strive in your fidelity. Also, run away from those who state ALL are saved, and run away from those who state MOST are damned. Don't let fear ... and not the Fear of the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom ... but the other kind of fear take away your peace, and turn you into anxious Catholics. Also, stop bothering with how many are saved and how many are not ... just "pray, hope, and don't worry".

im 60 now but when I graduated from high school Got a job for $35 a day and could suport myself . In a few years that was no longer possible. In 60 years $200 a. day is not enough to live in a home. Just to play devil's advocate... Jones: "Vix Pervenit says any interest on a loan is usury" Vix Pervenit 3.V.8: For instance, there are some who judge these matters with such severity that they hold any profit derived from money to be illegal and usurious; in contrast to them, there are some so indulgent and so remiss that they hold any gain whatsoever to be free of usury. Let them not adhere too much to their private opinions. Terms need to be defined. What is interest? Are we talking nominal, real, or some alternative definition? Vix Pervenit seems to predicate the entire judgement of whether usury is present on whether the amount returned is equal or greater than the amount loaned. So, perhaps interest is just defined as any amount exceeding equality? I always bring up things like opportunity cost and time-value as well as the factor of currency debasement and risks associated with both debasement, possible default and any other possible risks one takes on but giving up the cash for a period of time. Fellow Catholics often respond by saying that the Church does not consider such to be justification for charging interest (interest in this sense being the colloquial meaning that we use nowadays - as I'm still not sure how Benedict XVI defined the term) , but I've never had the rationale for this alleged position explained. Also, I've never actually seen a direct quote backing up the claim. Vix Pervenit for example says the following: "One cannot condone the sin of usury by arguing that the gain is not great or excessive, but rather moderate or small; neither can it be condoned by arguing that the borrower is rich; nor even by arguing that the money borrowed is not left idle, but is spent usefully, either to increase one’s fortune, to purchase new estates, or to engage in business transactions. The law governing loans consists necessarily in the equality of what is given and returned; once the equality has been established, whoever demands more than that violates the terms of the loan. Therefore if one receives interest, he must make restitution according to the commutative bond of justice; its function in human contracts is to assure equality for each one. This law is to be observed in a holy manner. If not observed exactly, reparation must be made." Here it addresses the fact that what the borrower uses the funds for is irrelevant, but does not address the issue of the cost to the lender (opportunity cost, etc would presumably fall under this category). "Once equality has been established" (unless I'm misunderstanding the use of "established") implies that there is some potential ambiguity as to what such equality would be. I've read through the entire document and didn't see any guidelines laid out for how such a thing would be determined. That being said, I don't know about you, but I certainly don't consider $15,000 a year from now to be equal in value to $15,000 in my hands today. For an entire year early on in my business, I actually had approximately that amount in bad debt due to non-payment of a couple invoices and it almost sunk me. The idea that the cost to me of that bad debt was nothing more than the value of inflation in that time is ludicrous on the face of it. I don't have any way to precisely prove the impact, but as plausible conservative guess of the damage might be between 3,000 and $5000 when considering the time wasted trying to collect as well as the negative effects on productivity due to the stress, etc. So anyways, what is usury? Methinks it needs a bit more nuance than given by Jones.
