Here's a fun story that very few people know. During the days of Brawl, the biggest mod community was Brawlvault. Someday an user created a new thread asking for people to join their project. The project's name was "Golden Cross", its purpose was to make a color palette for every character useing the colors black, gold and silver. There were some guidelines like not using gold as the main color, and making every character have baby blue eyes, etc. A lot of members joined the project and made sick colors for many characters. But one day, the user who started the project deleted the thread and took down all his uploads. Some time later, when Smash 4 was released, there was a black palette for many characters which previously didn't have one. Our point of interest here is Peach. Her black and gold dress has a striking resemblance to the one created for the Golden Cross project. You can Google "Golden cross peach brawl" and you'll be able to find a couple screenshots. Granted, this is most likely a coincidence, and it's not very difficult to come up with that color palette. But we joked around about how some Hal laboratory employee had sneaked into the modding community for inspiration of new costumes, but it's most likely only that, a joke. I remember this anecdote very fondly because I am the person who made that Peach mod. So, in my mind, I like to think that my design was officially added to Smash Bros. I've mained peach ever since and I always use that costume. TL;DR: Peach black dress is extremely similar to an old Brawl mod called "Golden Cross Peach" and some members of the modding community joke about some Hal laboratory employee using our mods as inspiration.
