He’s not apologizing for dissing Kendrick. He’s apologizing for writing a wack line. Kendrick made a political statement with his song, Auntie Diaries. During Cole’s diss track, he mocked the political statement that Kendrick made when he was really just attempting to mock Kendrick, himself. Basically, J. Cole accidentally made an opposing political statement that he doesn’t actually believe in, and now he’s apologizing because he doesn’t want to have to double down on a position he doesn’t support. *Here’s an analogy:* Kendrick took a shot that hit Cole, and when Cole fired back, the bullet missed Kendrick and accidentally hit a transperson. So Cole isn’t apologizing for shooting at Kendrick. He’s just apologizing to the world for having bad aim.

@@Life_of_collin idk, dude. The whole thing was wack and very forced. I don’t think he’s legitimately scared. I do believe that J Cole recognizes that Kendrick is the better rapper, but I don’t think that Cole is genuinely afraid of Kendrick. In fact, he invited Kendrick to take another free shot at him. So yeah, he’s not afraid of retaliation. He’s just disappointed in himself. Cole was just under pressure to publish a diss track in response, so he wrote a few bars. Regardless of the fact that Kendrick is the better rapper, J Cole’s bars were especially wack because his heart wasn’t really in them. He was basically peer pressured into fighting back, so he said some things that he wasn’t proud of. Personally, I think he’s particularly embarrassed about the trans line, because that one was especially cringe. But ultimately, it doesn’t matter. The point is that he’s a grown man who got peer pressured into doing something extremely lame and inauthentic, so now he’s ashamed of himself. If you ask me, Kendrick could demolish Cole in his next diss track and even clown on Cole for apologizing in the process, and Cole still wouldn’t regret apologizing because even though he’s not as good as Kendrick, he will have stayed true to himself. I know it’s fun to fantasize about all the drama. It’s amusing to imagine Cole shivering in fear because he thinks that Kendrick is a “boogie man” who’s gonna catch him in his sleep. But it’s not that serious lol. These grown men are both smart, hard-working multi-millionaires with a lot of integrity, mutual respect for one another, and more interesting things to rap about. I seriously doubt that they’re interested in destroying each other’s careers. If anything, I bet Kendrick writes a couple bars that lightly tease Cole, but ultimately, he’ll just move past it.

@@unlimiteddialogs I mean, I doubt that they are literally close friends that hang out together on weekends or anything like that, but I do think they have a strong mutual respect for each other, both as artists and as people. I’m sure they both want to be the GOAT, but I don’t think that their competitive ambition makes them genuinely dislike each other. Kendrick treats hip-hop like a sport. He plays rough. Sometimes, he even takes shots at people rapping on the same song as him, like on the famous Control verse, where he dissed Jay Electronica and Big Sean, despite them literally being on the same track together. Much like in any other sport, you can compete against your friends.
