So weird right, my three favourite people in the music industry, Chris, Jeff and Fiona all linked by a love for one another. Makes me wonder about myself and what I look for in music because this goes deeper than a coincidence I’m sure of it. I think all three produce music because it has/had to fulfil a purpose, they don’t write for the sake of it and only go with what moves them. That can translate as integrity, which they all possess/possessed, but it’s not that necessarily. I think they recognise a need in their writing, and I guess that’s also a crucial ingredient for me, even though that’s not what I look for necessarily. It just so happens to be there, I like that, makes me feel like I’m okay because hell, aren’t they just the absolute best people and songwriters! When Jeff died, I cried for sure, but I got over it within a year I’d say because amongst other things I had Chris and Fiona. When Chris died I went into shock, seems silly but he had a more profound effect on my life than my family, I picked up a guitar, formed a grunge band (‘96-‘99,) cut my hair the same, wrote songs in 5 or 7, open tunings, saw him live 6 times. I adore Soundgarden, always will be my band, I adored Chris as an influence, songwriter and person. 2024 and I’m still not over his death, ridiculous isn’t it? I don’t know him, but I know what he has done for me, played a part in shaping who I am and I will never forget. Please Fiona, as we are the same age, there is no need for me to grieve for you any time soon. Keep up the good fight sweet Fiona, thank you for performing at this tribute, it means more to me than I can truly express properly in words. (Obviously she’ll never read this but it feels good to pretend that there’s a chance she might.) Man do I have OCD, stupid, but obsessing over these guys is more enriching than porn or some crappy tik tok trend I guess.
