I think this album is overwhelmingly appreciated, not horribly underrated. It's just criminally underexposed, but I get what you mean. I've loved this album from the day I got it shortly after its release and I quickly memorized every single drum fill and nuance. There is so much depth to this album, an astonishing feat when you consider these guys were between 18 and 20 at the time. These three, and in particular CME and Skoll became my favorite musicians in metal. Skoll had a major influence on my bass style. Well fucking done! It's extremely satisfying to see CME's intricate drum work done on camera. As far as his drum setup, I know he's an open handed drummer (like me!) so his ride and hihat are on the left. This explains some of the bell/hihat work towards the end. I remember reading in an interview that the drums played by VBE and Aura Noir for the classic albums were actually borrowed from another band as they didn't own one. Imagine becoming this fucking good on someone else's set!

Nice man! I,m guessing you muted the sound of your drums and keep the original one, or the sound of another take, I see some movements I'm not hearing. But it's ok, good job man!
@pixelinthenorth9 ай бұрын
Thanks! I screwed up the audio on this recording; the original song and my mic are both in mono sound - and I haven't figured out how to balance the volume individually in post-production. The mic I use doesn't pick up all the drums so well either. So what you hear in the video is the same mix I had in-ear while playing it. And the "echo" you sometimes hear on the ride cymbal, at 01:16 for instance, is me struggling to stay exactly on the tempo grid... :)

@pixelinthenorth10 ай бұрын
Thanks! I'm using Remo Emperor X Coated heads on the Omar Hakim signature snare from Pearl. As for the recorded audio, I'm using a custom preset on the EAD10 mic, which adds some reverb and compressor effect. And you probably hear a lot of the original snare since I blend my recording on top of the song.

What is this abomination? Mayhem was never about showcasing technical skill but about the brutalism of sound. This is a travesty, a heresy, a heinous betrayal of the dark roots of black metal. Play this rubbish in a discotheque.
