Since being diagnosed in my mid 50s, I've made a point of being very selective where I get my info, on KZbin, etc. It's been like kissing frogs to find a prince. You meet a lot of frogs. You and Caren McGill have been very helpful recently. Of course, there's the wonderful Doctor Russell Barkley. Coaching is out of reach for me, so I'm stumbling through right now. I'm trying a back to basics approach after a couple of years of buying every book and watching countless videos. I need to trust myself more.

I needed this podcast. I work for CAI Neurodivergent Solutions. They hired me, making promises to help me and the two other applicants succeed and grow, etc. Well, we do data entry in a cold, windowless,.colorless room, and every time we've told HR how this is messing us up and hurting us, we are told there is nothing they can do. They also keep giving us more and more work and criticizing us for not getting it done fast enough. Others quit quickly but finances keep me trapped here. 😔

I'm glad this topic resonated with you. Those of us with ADHD are very quick to blame ourselves for some of the challenges and frustrations in our lives. But if we take a step back, we may find that we are in an environment that doesn't work well for us.

It's not always a case of advice being particularly profound. I've spent my life overcomplicating the simplest things, because I don't trust my own judgement. Having someone else prompting can make a huge (and yes, profound) difference with not missing the obvious and best solution.

@@Dirty_Hamble I also think it is a very good strategy to slow down and pause sometimes to collect our thoughts. Many times we don’t do that and we just keep going.

Having "a meeting with yourself" is a very good piece of advice. I've just written out 6 weeks of a new gym log, and every 7 days, I've included a blank weekly review page to see what's worked, what hasn't, and what needs adjusting. This is after a year of messy next to useless log books that I learnt nothing from. I don’t work, so this is the only self accountability I have. I know it sounds tiny but it's at least something.

"obsessed with time management" -- nope. Only when I have appointments or a workday project. I am a recovering workaholic, and I need to unplug from a clock, not schedule my home tasks, and go into flow/kairos time, NOT control my time. Others definitely don't control my time, though. I'm letting go of all the perfectionism because it leads me directly back to workaholism.

Constructive criticism: Took too long to get to the point. An on screen breakdown of what you'll be covering might hold interest long enough to get us to stick around.

I think there’s a big difference between the “One List to Rule Them All” mentality of productivity approaches like GTD (which takes hours and involves many steps and sub tasks) and this suggestion, which is a brain dump, limited in scope, and able to be completed in about 10 minutes. I’ve actually been repeatably successful at using the quick brain dump approach, but in 30 years of trying have never been able to make GTD work for me.

That's very true. People think about boundaries when it comes to other people, but we need to have boundaries with ourselves, which protects our time and energy.
