I found this review interesting. A mini series. No! Do a movie when you have something to say and must or should say. Didn't know "Robert DeNiro" directed the movie. Excellent movie about intelligence and espionage. When you are in that field, you can't say it and must do it when they get too close because there's a clock around it. It won't be revealed until it is time and when it is time all hell will break loose and the world will end and after you experience man's relationship to it you know the world must end because man hss been determined by God to end. So, in the good times that you squeeze out, enjoy your wife, your child, and your family while you can and have a glass of wine.

@thewikstrand
@thewikstrand 2 ай бұрын

You must understand why the movie is longish. This is back in the 60s when going to the movies itself was a major event for many people. You dont want to bring your date out and by the hour, time's up. You want to take your time, have a nice long cuddle etc. For many people this was about the only affordable entertainment available. No chance of buying a video, vcd etc. So it had to give people their money's worth. Nice review btw

Fredrick Forsyth is a very good author. Zimmerman a good director and Edward Fox a great actor. And part of the movie is true. The OAS did exist and did fire 140 shots at De Gaulle. The other think that stands out although the story about the hunt might be fictitious, that's basically how polices in Europe worked back in the day. Without DNA and cctv, they still got results. Finally there really was a Jackal, a paid assassin - Carlos the Jackal, who I think finally died in jail in France not so long ago.

I agree with you. They had great potential with the actors and actresses involved and the foundation of the story, which could've been a lot better. But it missed the mark overall. And I certainly failed to understand what the big take away or what the message was that the movie and story was trying to convey to the audience. From what I read, production was a big mess, to the point of Brad Pitt threatening to walk away from this movie and only finishing because the director and producers threatened to sue him if he did that. Very dissapointing movie/film.

It taking a long time for the big battle to start is such a post modern, today zero attention span comment. This was the 50s where people could wait through hours of stuff: basically liking to watch exotic things and costume drama, usually as in this case subtropical or tropical or some kindof exotic locale and costume, for long periods of time. Nor, is really any minute of the movie wasted. The movie starts with hercules becoming aware the seven against thebes is occuring: eteocles is feuding with polyneices for the theban crown, which just so happens to be hercules' city. promising oedipus their father that he will try to broker a treaty, hercules drinks the waters of forgetfulness, and then is captured by omphale, in a sequence which admittedly has flaws such as why does she happen to have this fountain in the middle of bitoitia near thebes and no one notices, and etc, though asking these questions of myths and fantasy worlds, is somewhat stupid. He's kidnapped by her, only to realise later he has been, espcapes with the help of his friends from the previous adventure, and then goes to fight int he war of the 7 against thebes. the insanity of both brothers is delt with in that they kill eachother in a duel. When the argives decide to attack anyway, hercules leads his people cleansed of their evil king and now nominally under creon, a good guy counsellor dude here, to victory, which is a route of the argivian forces. Also, the middle part with Omphale does seem like a different plot or movie, however, it is not. It is an episode which is like the Amazons kidnapping and drugging them in the first movie and provides an evil queen, although in the real myth, the Iole episode occurs I believe after Hercules leaves the argo in search of Hylas. These were written for people who have some interest in the source material or some interest in this genre of exotic adventure film, like Tarzan or King Solomon's Mines. Like in Haggard's She, the evil queen is a definite staple of these adventures, very often having a relationship with the main usually male protagonist. Understanding the genre and the stories it is based on will help appreciate this and other movies like it.
