You didn’t say anything about bubbles while applying the poly.
@DannyTimesАй бұрын
Thanks for the heads up. Yes be sure to stir the poly slowly and apply cautiously to avoid bubbles. If you have dry bubbles on your surface you can use the same method I've outlined in this video.
@Broncort1Ай бұрын
@@DannyTimesI experimented with using a MAP hand held torch and it seemed to work very well. It’s not the heat of the torch, it’s the carbon dioxide that’s supposed to pop the bubbles.

I'm curious whether I should apply more varnish after I remove the rivulets, but before I apply that light coat of polyurethane What do you think?
@DannyTimes3 ай бұрын
I guess the risk is you’d want to avoid a darker spot, which if you add more tinted varnish it might happen. My advice is to look closely and see if sanding brought the surface back down to the wood. If not then just the light coat of poly should do.

That’s right. Make sure you’re using a masonry drill bit as brick is too hard for most wood bits. ✨

I am using Minwax polyacrylic on a large bookshelf I just painted. Using a brush, it's streaking like crazy. If you can't spray it (I can't, because I live in a small apartment), I would use something else for a larger piece of furniture.
@DannyTimes4 ай бұрын
Did you try sanding with super fine grit sand paper in between coats? I would also recommend using a fine hair paint brush and not standard hardware store chip brushes.
@MonsieurTarzan4 ай бұрын
@@DannyTimes Yes I sanded in between. I used a nylon/polyester brush for the first two coats, then switched to a foam brush. The foam brush gave me nice even coverage. I didn't have any problem with bubbles. The key with a foam brush is waiting a few seconds for the poly to absorb into the foam before applying. I could not get even coverage with the nylon brush no matter how carefully applied it. I have no idea why I couldn't get the nylon to work well. I think your cabinets came out great, BTW.

Gorgeous cabinets! Minwax polycrylic is a wonderful product. I painted my island after de-glossing with a regular Behr paint, and put the polycrylic over it for durability. Worked like a charm, fairly easy to use, and dries super fast.
