@sixbladestories2 ай бұрын
Les Paul in the middle position with the Peter Green mod. This gives the guitar that “cocked wah wah” tone without actually using a wah wah. Turn your bridge tone all the way down and use quite a bit of distortion / overdrive!

Quite nice. The second harmonic which can be heard on the album is on the 4th fret D string, at least tonality wise, which gives you F#

@sixbladestories2 ай бұрын
I used Pavel Fomenkov’s video on the song for the basic technique. This is an old video though. I’ve listened to the original instrumental and different live video’s and played those by listening closely. I don’t use tabs and especially not for this song because tabs can’t do this song justice because of the hard technique in my honest opinion

This is the closest I've seen anyone get to Mark's technique. It makes a huge difference in the authenticity of the riff.

@insane_rail_lover3 ай бұрын
I know this video was to try and play exactly like the original, but the truth is, Mark Knopfler didn’t play the exact name in any of the live performances, like I couldn’t hear the harmonics in them. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he just laughs at videos of people trying to.
@kendricklyon96333 ай бұрын
@@insane_rail_lover yeah he doesn’t play the same exact lines every concert and frequently improvises instead of playing what’s on the record. However, I was asking because I needed the technique down, not the song.

I had the same problem for a while and just got it down recently, the thing I didn't notice at first is that you break away from the typical MK strum pattern a little bit in order to hit some of these notes, if you watch closely you can see it happening

I am aware of that. It’s a video about the general way of strumming the song. + Mark never used that technique live

I’m not a 100% sure on this. I know for a fact there’s a rythm part by David. And there could be a separate rythm and lead part by Mark. Or just one rythm and lead part by Mark where he alternates between rythm and lead like he does live. Not sure about it though
