I'm having the worst time with this lock lol. I guess #1 and the last pin are security pins. The spool must be pretty long and same for the standard ones. For me the false set never happens when poking around dimple pins. My theory is that the sliders might come into play earlier.

@@wolfganggrojcig2528 it’s definitely a tricky pick at first. I’d recommend taking a look at Bosnian Bill’s video where he actually guts the lock. It may give you a better idea of how to defeat it. I found it very helpful when I was learning to pick it. Keep at it and you will get it. Good luck! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3qtiIlurNd9ibssi=pfGywSVs3pKETLXx

@@plugspinner Well, I managed to get a very deep false set. I probably managed to pick all 5 pins but not all of the sliders. Unfortunately, I have no experience with sliders and I treated it as a spool, I kept setting the same slider as I set before and turned back the core, loosing every set pin. I was hoping for an open, but it's not what I got, should've went for the other slider.
@plugspinner
@plugspinner 2 ай бұрын
@@wolfganggrojcig2528 That’s progress! If you are able to get a false set like that again, try pushing your pick against the back wall of the keyway. I have no idea why, but occasionally I need to do this to get an open. Hopefully it works for you too.

@@plugspinnerThanks for the suggestion! I managed to open it this morning! If I set the sliders correctly I can avoid this huge false set. All I would've needed to do is to nudge that slider further to get a complete open. A great success indeed 😅 and what a fun lock! I like it a lot because it is so responsive. "chatty" you might say. It has a lot to say and the false sets are fun to get. Unfortunately I only have the blue belt version 5 pins, 4 sliders. Wish I had the 9 pin version 😢

Since the lock has no springs, any issues with the non-binding sliders dropping back down - particularly in the 45 deg position?

@@k6ul Nope! Once you have it in the 45 degree position, all of the sliders you set on first side are safe so long as you don’t rotate the plug backward again.

I saw you ease up on the tension. is that because of a serated pin? I've seen people do that but never understood why.
@plugspinner

Yes, it’s called “float picking” and it’s usually used for deep spools and serrated pins that are jammed up in the core. It’s also useful when picking locks with sharp counter-milling or threading in the pin chambers.

I have a lot of trouble with these locks. I can pick probably 75% of euro cylinders given enough time, but my success rate with these yale 1 stars is next to zero. Could I please ask some advice in dealing with these heavily serrated pins?
@plugspinner
@plugspinner 2 жыл бұрын
For me it mostly comes down to identifying counter rotation from the serrations. They are deep on the driver pins and behave almost like spools. Since the key pins also have serrations, you need to take care not to overset them, but their serrations are shallower and produce a more subtle false set. It’s a small difference, but noticeable with practice. So if you go from a deep false set to a slightly shallower one, there’s a decent chance you overset a pin. I also like to check that I haven’t overset any pins by lightly dragging my pick across the bottom of the key pins every so often to check that they are moving freely up and down. If any of them are springy or stuck in place, I know something is either not picked or overset. More than anything, it just takes practice though. Hope that helps and good luck!
