Is a hotbox really needed? Can't you just sprinkle some sifted millings into the damaged area and heat everything up together with the IR? It seems wasteful to heat up and transport materials that might not even get used that day.

I bet sagging will occur in these upright units where gravity constantly pulling on the blanket when in the upright position which will cause the poke thru holes to elongate and lead to premature failure.

If I understand well, no need to pull out the damage area to replace with new asphalt, instead to 'recooked' the surface and re add if necessary????

I agree. It makes no sense to remove dirt or rocks as that is what asphalt is made of. Remove water and organics, but all else I think should stay in the repair.

Anyone that's buying KM stuff watch out 4 ton hot boxes don't stay lite IAR welds are weak wheels break off all the time big pieces of shit loom at other manufacturers probably built alot better

That model is advertised at 16 sq ft. But it looks like it can really only do about a 2x2 patch. I'm in the market for an infrared and thought this model would be the ticket. But now I'm thinking you could only do really small patches with that thing,

It heats up a 4x4 area, but you have to leave a hot perimeter to ensure the hot to hot bond. They could have made the patch roughly 3.5' x 3.5', but for whatever reason they only cut it to 2x2ish.

because nothing is free and it needs to be paid for. I do this kind of stuff for a living. People always say "you missed a bunch of cracks" when i get paid for 7000ln ft and someone wants all of their cracks which is more like 100,000 ln ft at $0.70 a ft u better be paying me for that extra 93,000 ft. the time and material it takes.. Just a thought for ur little brain to think about before you go saying something stupid. You get 1,000-3,000ft per hour depending on the guy

Yes all KM hotboxes are reclaimer type units meaning they can reheat bulk stored, un compacted virgin hotmix asphalt. The diesel models come standard with a 7 day programmable timer to set engage the reclaiming process up to 7 days ahead of time.

There is nothing wrong with it. He probably doesn't know how to use it. Been using it for 3 years now. Absolutely wonderful best insulated box I've ever seen. It keeps the asphalt hot and usable for 2 days.. so instead of dumping your profits at night you load extra on top the next moring if you can save 100 every day just on material think how much it saves you in a year .. most hotboxes and I mean all of them you have to scrap your material and sometimes the plants are closed and your stuck with a hard ton and a half.. good luck getting that out your hotbox without the help of a excavter lol..... Anyways this box is the best if your planing on doing repairs and 400 square foot driveways.. but not good if your in the big jobs.. everything has its purpose
